Hello Members

I have observed these lesions on my GSD who is 27 months old. He is protected by fleas & ticks. I am using Bayer Advocate & Bayer Killtix collar. Can anyone help in diagnosing these lesions

It is difficult to judge by a picture but it looks like a hotspot to me. It could also be a fungi infection. If it is moist and sticky around the area of the lesion than it's most likely a hotspot. The best way to get rid of it is to shave the hair around the lesion and treat with a ointment you will find at the vet or a good petshop.

Where??  All over or in just one area??  Any smell or hair loss, shedding, etc??  Scratching, licking??  Oozing or pustules from the areas??

Its dry. No oozing. But itchy. Multiple areas on the croup and loin. In some areas only red spot is seen. In two areas there is redness along with brown flakes.

Where ( location on the dogs body ) did you apply the spot on Advocate??  If the irritated area is the same as an area that you applied the Advocate then I would take off the flea collar/tick collar (Kiltix) and see if the symptoms gets better.  Also have you checked under the Kiltix collar for any irritation there??  When was the Advocate and Kiltix applied ( recently at the vet and at the same time ).  I suspect a reaction to the ai's in the Kiltix collar  with the moxidectin in the Advocate spot on.  It takes a lot more moxidection as a spot on than as an oral to control heartworms and the makers and marketers of moxidectin ( Fort Dodge ) have always been willing to take chances with your dogs health.  They were the company that sold recalled and now are selling once again ProHart (moxidectin)  injectible heartworm treatment for dogs that has killed and sickened a lot of dogs, so Fort Dodge products will always bear watching and skepticism on my part.  Have you seen any live fleas on the dog??  The lesions look a bit like flea dermititis and it could be the fleas on the end where the control is weakest (further from the application of the spot on and the flea tick collar) didn't get the memo that they were supposed to die.  If the application of the controls was recent all of the fleas may have migrated away from the controls and had a big party before they died. I am liking the Kiltix and Advocate as being part of your problem.

My female GSD Sasha had scabby skin and hair loss a year ago that was on her rear and tail, that we thought was fleas but we never found any fleas at all. We took her to our vet and it turned out she was allergic to the the food she was eating. It was from Purina and made for large breed dogs. So we put her on Rachael Ray Nutrish‎ dry dog food as it has very few ingredients and is a natural food unlike many others. It's also not pricy like other natural food dog foods and most supermarkets and pet food stores carry it. Sasha got better quickly on the new Nutrish dog food and she's still on it today and has a nice shiny healhy coat as well. So you might want to try switching her food. Allergies can come out of nowhere sometimes and I myself have learned. Also if any dogs are on Purina Beneful dry dog food, take them off right away as it is also causeing reactions like this and even posioning dogs as well. Though I'd advise everyone to avoid any of Purina's dog food as they are too artificial and can do more harm than good. Same with ALPO as they have also been caught being unsanitary at their pet food factories.

I applied advocate on 2-3-15 on multiple sites along topline. Shoulder blade, back, loin and croup. I fitted killtix collar on 6-3-15. Yes before i applied advocate he had itching at the loin. There were areas of redness. I gave avil and later that day apolied advocate. All the itching stopped and he was ok. Then on 6-3-15 i put on killtix collar.
