For those of you who understand the genetic passing of coat types and color. Can you tell me what the probability is that this litter will have an all black puppy?

www.pedigreedatabase.com/breeding.result?father=2185390&mother=691787

The dam Stella has produced a few times with the sires father (Esko) a few times and has had at least 1 all black.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

I am curious to the responses from the people who can give an accurate educated guess... I would think a solid black would be really unlikely happening, but that is a 'OfA' response

Somewhere between 0% and 25% chance per puppy.  You know Stella and Esko carry black recessive (a) since they've produced blacks together.  (This was critical, so thanks for including it.)  That makes them both sable with a black recessive (Aa for simplicity since we're only dealing with sable and black alleles).  Olex is sable, so he's A?.  If Esko passed the A, then Olex is either AA (second A from his sable dam) or A? (? from whatever else the dam is carrying - no way to tell without testing).  If Esko passed the a, then Olex has to be Aa because sable came from Kalli.

There are different percentages for the puppies depending on what else is in there.  Keep in mind this is the chance per puppy, not that a litter of 8 will be 2 blacks and 6 sables or whatever!  Same way litters aren't 50% male and 50% female...

Stella (Aa) x AA = all visually sable

Aa x Aa = 25% black, 75% sable

Aa x A? = 75% sable, rest ??

Thank you FOREVERSOLUCKY. I should have also included that Esko and Kalli also have produced Black puppies every time they where mated. I assumed it would be about a 25% chance since Esko and Stella usually only had 1 black puppy and the rest turned out sable.

There is 50% probability that sire of the litter carries gene for black color, he definitely got one sable gene from one of his parents as he is sable. The second gene he got is either for sable or black color. If that gene is for sable color all the pups in the litter will be sable. If the gene is for black color, you should have some black pups too.
