you could send elbows off to Germany and see if they get a2 rating.
ofa is not recognized by SV.

if you got her at 1.5 years, they could have known there was a problem, or not.

what did the vet tell you is the procedure for "fixing" her?

IMO, only fair hips and a bad elbow...

Does she have any working or show titles?

Do yo ureally want to breed this bitch? If so, what makes her outstanding for breeding?

Those are 2 hugh major issues when considering breeding a dog;  personally I would not breed her.  NOT good enough. Even with excellent hips and excellent elbows a dog can produce bad hips and elbows;  the best to the best can produce it.  Why would you risk by taking a chance with a bitch that already has problems prior to breeding?  Good luck with her.  Nan

I'm guessing that "fixing" her is her term for spaying, nothing to do with the elbow.

Bad luck, but why are you "out of a lot of money" now ?
You bought (?) a dog, you x-rayed the dog - that´s normal procedure, nothing special.

Not every German Shepherd is breed worthy, but might still be a good dog for its owner.

Fair hips are normal hips. My bitch is an OFA fair and so far has only produced goods. I've also used a fair from another breed, 7 puppies all OFA good and 3 excellents. No different than using a fast normal, is it? I never hear anyone condemn that. In fact a fast normal is one grade less that a fair.

I don't think that the hip rating is the big issue here, she's asking about the grade 1 elbow.  Trying to decide if she wants to breed her or neuter her because of that. Doesn't sound to me like she's an experienced GSD owner, so why  don't you GSL people explain to her about titling?

BTW the SV certifies grade 1 elbows that OFA will not.

Okay, she is asking about the grade one elbow.

Answer: there is no possibility to tell you if this grade one is a result of an injury or if it´s hereditary. For OFA it´s not good enough...
I wouldn´t breed this dog.

Blitzen, there are cases in which SV certified what OFA didn´t, and there are cases in which OFA certified what SV didn´t, why try to circumvent a decision?
There are more than enough dogs out there.

And right now we are talking about health only - I´m pretty sure the poster heard about titles, shows, and breed surveys, but isn´t interested in this venue.
At least she spent the money for the health checks, now she needs to act responsibly.

I wasn't the one who suggested she should try the SV, I think Sitamoms said that. I'm not so sure she knows about the rest, maybe we'll hear from her again......maybe not?
