I am looking for any leads on someone that might be interested in doing helper work in west Michigan.  There are no decent clubs around Grand Rapids.  It's crazy with a metro population over 1 million my friends and I are all driving to the opposite side of the state or even other states to get dogs worked.  I currently drive almost 3 hours to training and don't mind the time/drive but the gas is killing me and I'm only working ONE dog right now, trying to get him ready for trials starting in a few months and I can barely get out twice a month.  I'm also getting a puppy this summer so I'm trying to find a way to get dogs worked on a more regular basis.  I also have several friends and acquaintances that would join if we can find someone half decent to work dogs in this area.  I am not looking for the world's greatest helper, just someone who has worked a fair number of dogs and titled some of their own dogs so they know what is up.  At least right now, most of the dogs I/we have are already adult and started titling so we won't be stuck doing lots of puppy circles and whatnot.  If you or if you know of *anyone* interested please post or contact me!!

Gustavo would be my go to(in fact that is my plan on getting my dog on another field/helper)  Jeremy at fullforce is another option, but not sure he's willing and able. Trusting and safety are first priorities for me.

Here in Canada we have the GSSCC (German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada) and they have been a big help in recommending helpers and getting us contacts. Do you guys have anyone of the like you could contact?

Paying for fuel is a biggie as well as paying for good helperwork. In this area, word of mouth~knowing who to go to is a small world, I don't think there are helpers that we don't know about so contacting USCA, WDA, SDA, PSA in this area will give any more information than most who are already training in the sports already know...I am on a few fb pages, which are helpful in knowing about more clubs and events. This one has given me a few options for training/ competing:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/109903339084373/

My top recommendation be Toran Scott and then Ryan Schipper but I do not know for certain that either of them are currently doing any helper work.  I have worked dogs with both of them and was highly impressed.  You might also contact Mike Sapp and he may know someone else.

Thanks Judy.

Yes Keith, I already know Kevin and have worked dogs on him.

Gustavo is good but I'm not looking to join another club/group, we already have a handful of people that want to start something more local on our own terms and not have to constantly travel out to other clubs and facilities.
