How frequently do bitches usually go into heat? My GSD bitch had her first heat cycle between Sep-Oct, and today came back into heat. Is this normal?
Thanks
Thanks

I take it that your bitch is quite young and that this will be her 2nd heat. How old is she?
The average time between season is 6 months but it is not unusual for them to be 4 months or 10 - 12 months.
I myself have a 4 month bitch and it is quite a PITA as it would be for you especially if you are involved in training or other dog sport.

The normal heat cycle is generally around 6 months...However, it could differ for every bitch. If your bitch came in heat Sept-Oct I would
have expected her to come back in heat around February-March. That's a pretty broad window of time..However, Since Feb begins in a few days,
I would say she may not be too far off schedule depending on what time of the month of Sept-Oct you are referring to.
However, I have records for each of my dogs and I do make a notation for important things like that so next time I have a pretty good idea and
won't be guessing. But I am a person that writes everything down so there is not much room for error or guessing.

My young female (9.5 months) went into heat about a month ago.
Bled for 2 days which was VERY LIGHT and my male didn't even take any notice.
We took all the necessary procautions, etc... nothing seemed "out of the ordinary" but we continued to monitor.
Yesterday my female started bleeding quite a bit (dipping) and my male is at her constantly (they are separated when not supervised closely and are not separated until she is done), he is quite intend on smelling/licking her and will drag us to her potty spots and track her in and out of the house.
So, from what I have heard she either had a false heat? or a split heat.
But because this was her "first" heat cycle, I am not really basing anything on it.. we will see what happens after this one, since this to me "is the real deal".

Thanks guys! Well she originally came into heat the last week in Sept and went through the beginning of October, so I thought it was a little early. She's only 14 months.
