A friend recently revealed to me that she had always considered herself to be an agnostic. I was a bit surprised as both her and her late husband had always been active in their local church. I really wasn't familiar with the term agnostic so did some research and wonder if agnostic and atheist mean the same, except it is socially more acceptable to be an agnostic rather than atheist.

An agnostic isn't certain about there being a god or there not being one. An atheist doesn't believe any god exists. A theist believes the is one or more gods.

Don't the agnostics need proof that God exsists?

When my friend's husband was laying in the hospital on his death bed I have a hard time believing she didn't pray for him.

Agnostics basically straddle the fence.  They believe it's possible there is a god but that it's just as likely there isn't one.  They realize there's no hard evidence either way and basically reserve judgement.  Atheists believe there is are no gods.  Monotheists believe in one god (Christians for example).  There are also polytheists which believe there are multiple gods (such as the ancient Greeks).  As an atheist, I don't pray no matter what is going on.  Anyone that does, I feel is more likely agnostic or some type of theist and just doesn't want to admit it for whatever reason.  I'm not inclined to bash anyone for their beliefs but I would like people to stand behind what they claim to believe.  Don't only love your god when things are good and don't go praying to one that you claim doesn't exist.  JMPO

Im an agnostic athiest, I dont THINK there is a God or Gods, but I wont say there isnt.  I try to live by a moral code and I do pray sometimes, "just in case".  I also thank God, even thogh I am not optomistic that he exists.  I certainly would like there to be a God, but I really do think I'm just going to rot when I'm dead.

With apologies to all religions!

And if you are wondering about the Mormon/magical underwear connection, I did not know it either but this link explains it all - about half way through there is someone who offers a fairly detailed explanation. It is actually called a "temple garment"! I will never be able to look at Mitt Romney during debates without thinking about his temple garment!! :)

LOL, very funny! I have to admit, I'm on Team Bacon and I learned to be annoying. I was at one time, a sweet, quiet, obedient child. LOL
