Lexa
I am always interested in other peoples Dogs and certainly if they are related to mine, What is the Pedigree of your dog but if you post it can you do it as a link i can open direct to the Pedigree part that would be great, i just do not seem to get the ones to show that  i have to type in
Funny you should say that about the X- Rays on here more luck than judgement with me
Now perhaps Sock Puppet can come to my aid again
I have the X-Rays on DVD in Jpeg. I put them in the DVD video at home and all i get is a round red ring next to the little square of the X Ray they will not open on the Television
On my Computer i put the DVD into the usual place up comes a warning and it is this
COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR REQUEST BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM PARSING THE JPEG DATA
i do not have a clue what it means or how to get over it

Lexa i somehow got the X-Rays on my Documents folder by going through the computer DVD drive how it happened i really cannot tell you
Once on the documents folder i put them onto Photo Bucket and then onto the Forum  i always put my pic's on photobucket then onto the forum, sorry i cannot help you more perhaps Socket can

I never looked at pups younger than six months of age, so I cannot say with absolute confidence what is normal for this age / stage of development. Functionally, this bitch is sound, but IF you have trouble (with OFA, not the bitch) it's going to be in the femoral neck area. OFA seems not to like short femoral necks with any signs of thickening, and / or large femoral heads. There seems to be a lot of problems now that they are rejecting dogs with poorly defined coxofemoral joints. Any suggestion of a thick, short femoral neck seems to be a real issue with them.

I think it's a waste of time to x-ray the elbows at this age, unless you have a reason to suspect trouble. Most elbow dysplasia is involving an un-united anconeal process, and that doesn't fuse until around nine months of age.

Hi Steve1,
Even though I do not have much experience in reading hips/ elbow Xrays, the prelims all look good and fitted into their sockets.  This must be such a relief.  So you say its generally practise to have this prelims done in Belgium.  May I ask where abouts in Holland is this vet and the cost for the Xrays please.  Was it done under GA or just sedated?  Its just for my future references.  Many thanks.

Posidon
The Vet charged me 145 euros Hips Elbows and DNA he sent it off to the SV they charged me 75 euros for the Hips and Elbow results and 85 euros for the DNA
The Vet gave her s GA a jab in the leg, out in 3 seconds, He wants the dog totally relaxed when he does the work i put on the Lead Smock to assist him he was short staffed that morning i held her front and helped him tum her

DDR-DSH
the vet says she has a great back and bones in general better than most for her age it is the vertebra of the back he was interested in, he said she has a strong linkup to the Pelvis, He was very happy with her at her age The Sch people over here get them done early id there is any problem at 5 to 6 months old they go to a pet home, They will not get a Puppy work it along for 12 to 14 months then find out its Joints are not so good, that makes sense i think

OK, now I understand why she was x-rayed. Yes, I have found that most serious HD is related to hip joint laxity, and would probably have already occurred at this age. I have actually discovered long ago a method of passive hip palpation which is very safe and natural.. no need for positioning or anaesthesia.. This will reveal the laxity during a very narrow time frame, and is usually occurring at or before four months of age.

I am glad to see that they are starting to pay more attention to the spine. This is a very serious and underestimated health threat for our dogs, IMO. I am VERY suspect of the dogs with the sloping, rounded toplines, the so-called "watermelon back" which is so popular in show dogs, today. Many years ago I had a daughter of a lovely bitch named Biene zu den dreizehn Buchen, who was years ahead of her time in overall type. She had / produced this sort of a back. The bitch I had was starting to drag a hind toe and within six months was completely disabled and could not walk or get up. She was relatively young, at seven years of age. I lost another old dog at twelve years, and he also was very "typey" and had this same watermelon back. During his last six months he was troubled by spondylosis and I had to help him get up and stand to eat or drink.

Congratulations! I think you have a nice bitchling there!

Jason had Ike done early and at first I thought he as crazy until he explained the "whys"

hope you have a nice day!

I think there is a obvious difference between the left  and right hip , and if the dog is positioned better , I think the difference will be even bigger
also , steve , this age is way too young for me to Xray , but your right , if it looks bad already on this age , no need to keep her , but no guarantee that it will still be good at 14 months

According to the Vet the joints are better than average for her age he is happy with them, And Yes, if they are not right at this age they never will be but as you say they can be okay now but at 8 to 9 months later then we do them again officially,
But at least  at the present time i can carry on the normal routine of bringing her along for the Sch sport, I guess there is nothing worse than having a nice young Pup with plenty of go and brains only to find it has joint problems after bringing it along for 14 months or so,
It must be soul destroying for the owner, Fortunatly all the Dogs i have bought up from Puppies have finished up with
a normal Hips, so todate i am a lucky fellow and i think much of it is down to luck
However Gina is a very smart girl, tons of go in her obedinant already sits and downs on first command, stays at a sit when walking away 4 or 5 yards, and when on a down stays there then comes and sits in front like an old hand when called, i am pleased with her at this time
