Maybe he wants a dog which will protect him,  when he gets himself into this situation?

By the way that article news clipping which you posted is the most idiotic. Dog who kills cat is dangerous? OMG!!!! Is that what you came up with?  Dog killed tabby cat Skippy??!!!!

And to the statistic of number of bites I would say there are in that as in any statistic good and bad bites. As Harry Callahan said .
"There is nothing wrong with shooting
people as long as you shoot the right people." So who knows how many of the bites were legally justified?

Brittney
With that logic STOP driving your car. The parking brake could fail and run over someone or even your failure as  a driver could run over a child.  Do not be controlled by fear and be responsible, think use you head.

Those dog bites statistics do not take into consideration people who are bitten when perpetrating a crime, dogs that bite to defend their property or bites incurred when breaking up a dog fight , etc.. They only reflect the number of people who receive dog bites who are treated by a doctor or at  emergency room; the details of the bites are not listed.  Some people are so afraid of dogs or hate them so much or are so whimpie that they will run to the hospital if a dog even scratches them or knocks them to the ground. Many times the breed of dog is incorrectly identify - any black and brown dog with erect ears would be a GSD, any yellow dog a lab, and who do you know who is qualified to say which dog is and which is not a mix?

Most dogs will kill cats if they can catch them. Some cats need to be killed.

Good intentions to try to educate Brittany in the the use of logic and common sense.  Past is prolog;  many have tried and failed. I wouldn't expect that to change any time soon.

Statistics are bull crap. You can manipulate them to say anything you want them to.

What if, what if.....Brittany what if the dog you assumed was nice and tolerant and enjoyed being around kids and people one day snaps (literally)? I've seen that happen and heard of it happening a lot!  "I don't know why he bit so-and-so, he's *always* been so good around people...."  I've never heard of a friend or acquaintance's dog accidentally being release from their enclosure by a stranger and then attacking a person, but I hear the former all too often...

I'm going to kick out an idea here. You know I think maybe even in schools, they need to have a little class now and again to teach kids about approaching dogs and petting them when it is OKed by the owner. I say this cause I was at my friend's one day with Mauli and the granddaughter ran out and ran to Mauli and threw her arms around her. I grabbed her head and let the little girl pet her. After she went on, I told him you really need to talk to her about running up to strange dogs because someday she's going to pick the wrong dog and of course it will be the dog's fault. Oh yeah, I know...well then educate her before something like this happens. Mauli has never bitten or threatened to bite anyone, but there's always a first time. I trust my dog--as long as I am right there so I can control things.

There are different statistics some by law enforcement , special interest groups, insurance companies,....but Blitzen with all due respect, as you said your self,  the statistics about dog bites are most often made by doctors and insurance companies and  they do not care about if the dog has bitten legally or not they are not attorneys and they do not and can not make such distinctions.

So Paul :) What you're trying to tell me is that the Animal Control from my county is attempting to pick on the German Shepherd breed for no apparent reason at all by manipulating the statistics? Is that what you're trying to tell me?

by Paul Garrison on 27 April 2013 - 15:04

I would guess I have owned and bred more APBT then any one on this board and never produced a man bitter, and they still managed to ban them in many cities including my own.
