The saddle for the east line DDR is almost extinct. Sables and the elusive black sable sell fast so money has played into the concept of less or loss of blk/tan/red saddles. I will be so glad when the fad is done, as it has done much damage to the eastline.

Sarah,
Uncas vom Poppitz and Neumanns Jim were both DDR B&T. I disagree with the "classic" look being the black saddle. Horand, Pollux, Beowulf and so on were black and black sable. Rin Tin Tin is primarily responsible for the popularity of the black saddle today. There are black saddles in the working lines but from what I've seen its mostly the Belgian, Czech and West Working lines. Like you said though, giving up the working line traits for looks isn't worth it. Hope this is insightful.

Super breeding on Cadett, Very similar blood line to the pup, Xbite. Any frozen on the the B litter by chance. :) Nice pairing. We should not have to go back to the 80's to find a pattern, there are 5-6 eastline saddleback dogs that I have seen left. I have been looking for 3-4 years. Thats just not good line management.

Nice examples!!! Thank you all for sharing!!
Are there particular breeders who are keping the Tiekerhook and Cadett v Busecker Schloss lines alive today? I have never heard of either!!
Can someone expand on the bloodlines for educational purposes? Thank you!!

Tiekerhook is a well known kennel that is still actively breeding.

The sire of my current litter is black and tan, as are the 4 males produced in the litter.
