I was wondering why most working lines are black (like mine), black sable, sable, bi-color. Why don't you see a lot of black and tan with the traditional saddle back pattern? I have never seen one at any of the 4 IPO fields I have trained at.....I flip through tons of my USCA magazines and haven't found one either.
Is it breeding preference, and if so, why?
Or, someone told me that working lines are of East German origin (like my bitch) and they didn't have access to black and tans because of the Berlin wall. But, then someone on here (forgive my memory) posted a video of early DDR dogs and there were definitely classic saddle backed black and tans.
I am extremely partial (that's and understatement) to the classic black and tan saddle back look. But, I don't want to give up the great traits from the working line. Are they more prominent in other countries but not the US?
Please...no bash fest.
Thank you,
Sarah

Sarah, If you go back to your earlier thread looking for moderate conformation SL dogs, you'll see several posts about b/t saddle WL.

I did and just saw it was breeder preference. Trying to verify. Thanks....

There's still working line saddle blacks and tans out there. I have one and so do several people in my club.
