Quote: No one is duscussing if a dog is domininant in order to use this collar. It is actually the name of a collar that is made to order to fit snug under the dog's jaw and not enough slack to lay lower on the neck. They are not saying you should use this collar on a dominant dog it is the collar called a dominant dog collar as the sales name by I believe Leerburg?

Until Leerburg, they were called snappy chokes. LOL Dominant dog collar has a much better ring to it.

A pinch collar often does the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish when you have a dog fighter. When you use it in the bitework, it becomes a stimulant, and not a punishment. I think the fancy people call it a positive negative. : )

I am growing tired of constantly hearing the words dominant, pack leader, and so on lol So much of it tossed around by people who dont have a clue then the others pick it up and they cannot even read a dog but we are supposed to believe because they use these catch words they are just awesome :)

GSDNewbie,

I didn't mean that by wearing the collar it cuts off the dogs air supply, I meant that it is designed to cut it off when used properly! As opposed to a prong collar, of course.Since you have one, I assume you know how to use it!  I use the collar for my dogs safety, as a backup collar, I dont need mine for correction is all that I was saying. I'm sure that people can come up with a hundred differet ways to use the collar...to each his own....imo!

Everyone I know only uses it for corection pops like a choker? Am I wrong are people using this to choke out their dogs? I would never and have never needed to cut off any dog from their oxygen and do not approve nor have I ever seen anyone use this collar for that method. The reason IMO it fits snug is to keep it in proper place on the neck for the pops not to make it easier to chioke of air supply.

Interested in all others opinions on this. Do you use this collar and do you choke your dogs air supply goodwink?

I rarly use this collar. For most basic training I use the prong personally. :)

It is not supposed to be used for a dog that is compliant and or does not know what you are asking. It is supposed to be used for a dog that has serious problems with other dogs or people.

No, you do not use it to pop the dog. The reason it sets high up on the neck is so that it shuts off the air supply quickly and is not hindered by the neck muscles. You use it lightly, and it causes a gag reflex.

Again, it is not used for your pet dog.

GSDNewbie,

I agree with you 100% and NO...I would NEVER choke my dog!!!! I do think that people use it like a prong collar and administer correction pops as you stated, but it was designed to cut off an aggressive dogs air supply. You are also correct that the collar should have a snug fit, but this is actually to prevent damage to the trachea when people are "correcting" their dogs by pulling the collar straight up into the air until the dogs front feet come up off of the floor, not to assist with correction pops. As I stated earlier, there are 100 ways to use the collar, but it was designed to take the dogs air supply. Do I agree with this personally? Absolutely Not!!!!    I do have this collar, and I use mine for my girls safety. Mine isn't quite as snug as it should be so that I can clip my leash to both my prong and my dominance collar at the same time. That way if my prong collar comes off for some reason during training (which has never happened), I still have control of my dog. I have never used it for correction. I personally use a prong collar. It is just less bulky in training....
