Very nice Daniela. Is there a particular order in which training works best? Noticed you did IPO first and then FR, or did you train both simultaneously?

We trained IPO and French Ring concurrently (from a puppy on) and basically obtained these titles in parallel (i.e. BH/Brevet then SchH1/FR1 etc.). I did keep the training venues strictly separated and do use different commands for different sports/exercises to maintain clarity. For example, heeling in IPO goes with the command “fuss”, while I use “zu mir” (with me) in French Ring, as I do not mandate “focus heeling” from the dog during a 45 minute FR3 exercise routine. As you can see from the video, my dog still tends to offer focus due to strong imprinting.
I also made sure that all FR training emphasized leg bites; we did not introduce upper body bites in the suit until much later in the training. That said, cross-training a dog definitely influences their behavior in both sports, sometimes to the worse and sometimes to the better. One of my bigger challenges has been the transition from a “pattern trained” blind search in IPO (diagonal path across the field) and FR (perimeter pattern) to a true “scent-based” search in MR. I actually had to introduce building searches to clarify this concept for my dog.
I do believe that cross training reduces the dog’s ability to truly excel at any one individual sport, ‘cause it’s usually not possible to be a master of all trades concurrently. But it’s a lot of fun teaching the dog to overcome these challenges :-)

Yes, I've heard consistently that certain aspects interefere with each other, though it seems you've done well in both IPO and FR. I don't believe there is any Mondio Ring where I live som that won't be an issue.
So just between IPO and FR, do you think it makes sense to do one first? Or will you be doing both simultaneously with your next dog as well?

I have failed at finding specific rules concerning ZVV, not sure if it is as different from IPO as FR or MR are?

Thank you :-) Like I said, this is definitely not something you can do alone and I would recommend starting with one sport and later transitioning to another (although I may not follow my own recommendation 
)

A really good trainer could probably do very well in 2-3 sports if they have the time and a good dog.The malinois I mentioned is world champion in MR2, swedish champion and several podium places in the swedish bitework program and also one start in IPO3 so far, video below with the score 96,90,96.
Her husband also placed third in worldchampion for MR3, that dog is also IPO3 with best score so far 96,92,95.

The Zvv3 title is different from the IPO titles.
