I'm with Judron all the way. Looking around my living room....they all look ok;-)

I agree with Jenn and Judron. Also it is my understanding that the first rabies they give puppies are only the 1 yr ones and then when it is time to do the 2nd, they give the 3 yr shots. I do the first 3 puppy shots and after that none except for the rabies, which is required by law here.

Interesting about giving the rabies shot separatly.  I have always had a vet give rabies at the same time as the rest of the shots (we live in a county that rabies is given every year).  No one has ever mentioned giving the shot separatly.

Can someone explain why recommend giving the shot separatly, with a wait period between?

The rabies vaccine has one of the highest incidences of adverse reactions, for one.

I do not give any shots at all until at least 12 weeks, and at that time I give Neopar. Two to three weeks later, I give Neovac-DA2, and that is it.

My puppies each got a distemper/parvo vacc with the breeder, around 6-7 weeks.  I had the vet do a 5-way combo which included the standard distemper/parvo (we're at risk for some other things around here) and then we did a third distemper/parvo booster.  All of these were 3-4 weeks apart.  At 6 months the vet did rabies by itself (when the pup was in for hip/elbow prelims).  I don't do bordetella.

I separate the Rabies from the other vaccinations as I dont want to slam the immune system all at once. Rabies are the law here, but I always titered instead of giving the rabies vaccination, after the puppy series. The titers were always came back in perfect range. Joss lived till 11 years of age when my vets mistake resulted in his death, Missie T lived to 11 yrs of age, and both titers were always perfect. They allow dogs into the USA  based upon  titers, so why do they not do this for pet owners who live in the USA, rather than forcing us to over vaccinate our dog ??????????  My dogs are pets, so I didnt have to worry about them being around other dogs and venues crowded with people. All had excellent temperaments, however,  so I didnt have to worry about them biting anyone- maybe licking them to death, but not biting. Casey James is a bit unsteady, so  he will need to have his vaccinations, which is upsetting to me as I am pretty sure a rabies vaccination is good for life, from my experience.

I do this:

6.5 weeks - parvo only vacc
9.5 weeks - 4 in 1 (distemper-parvo)
13.5 wks -      ''               ''

6 months - Rabies

15 months - 4 in 1 booster

That's for pups that stay with me. I let them go at 10 - 12 weeks.
I have found most vets talk new owners into more; like every three weeks until 16 weeks.

I'm in pa. I'm a vet tech as well. We never gives rabies with other vaccines. We also recommend against bordetella unless it's required by kennel (boarding). We give 1st rabies vxn 12-16 weeks and it's good for 1 year. The second rabies is done around 27 months and that is good for 3 years. Our vet recommends distemper/parvovirus every year until animal is 8 yrs. I personally disagree with this. Our state allows rabies titters so I prefer to stop vxn my animals after initial set. As far as Lyme, I've never seen one case. A vet who is a friend got it but never saw a dog case. We do not carry this vxn and highly recommend against it! Lepto is a bad vxn also. Highly highly reactions from this shot. IMO, we over vaccinate our animals. I do nt use flea preventative or heart worm medication. I also feed a raw diet. Hope this helped!
