First Visit: 6-28-12 Age 9 Weeks and 4 days He had no ill reactions after this visit
1 Revolution
1 Rabie
1 Fecal Floation
Second Visit: 7-26-12 Age 13 Weeks and 4 days
1 Revolution
1 DHLPP
1 Lyme Vaccination 1st
1 Bordetella 1st Nasal
1 Rabies Vaccination (3 years)
1 Stool
After this visit his nose on one side was runny (clear) and both his eyes have slight discharge (clear, no color) Everything else is normal. His nose has cleared up but he still has minimal discharge from his eyes (clear, no color) I read this can be normal but it didn't start until after the second visit so Im a little suspicious the vaccines caused it. What worries me is he has another visit on the 23rd and here is what they would like to do. I know I do not like them shoving that syringe in his nose for the Bordetella and I would love to tell them to shove it when it comes to that. Any input would be respected and greatly appreciated. It does make me sick looking at everything they put into my poor guy! Thanks
He will be around 17 Weeks old on 8-23-12

What vaccinations did the breeder give this pup?
If the pup got several sets of vaccines from his breeder, plus all these from the vet then it is certainly overkill IMO.
I also agree that rabies vaccine should be done at a separate time than any other vaccines.
Your vet did not need to give your pup 2 sets of rabies vaccination. As of 2011, the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) recommends the following for rabies vaccination.
For the 1 yr or the 3 yr
Initial rabies vaccination at 16 weeks (not earlier than 12 weeks unless required by law)
Second vaccination at 12 months
re-vaccinated every 1-3 yrs as required by law.
The best protocol for rabies vaccination is the following:
a 1 yr shot at 16 weeks (as far as I know, the only time it is required earlier is for shipping puppy)
a 3 yr shot at 12 months
re-vaccinate every 3 years (or as required by law)
Do you live in a high Lyme disease risk area? If not then you should really think twice about letting your vet do this one.
I never give my dogs or pups bordatella shots, would never do it unless I had to board my dogs and the boarding place requires it (so aggravating to me that they do!)
At least the vet isn't giving lepto.
As for Revolution, it depends on how you feel about parasite prevention. I personally avoid giving my growing puppies any flea/tick medicine (other than capstar if they actually have fleas.) Unless your pup already has a problem with mites, mange, ticks or fleas or your pup is at high risk for getting fleas and ticks because of your local environment.
Only once or twice a year do I give my dogs a de-wormer. The past 2 yrs I haven't given my dogs any flea/tick prevention, yet I have 8 dogs that live in the house, are exposed to other dogs regularly out on walks/runs in the park. I also have a friend who has a flea population whom I see often, their pets are on monthly flea/tick meds, yet still have fleas. Any flea that I may have inadvertently brought home hasn't survived here. (btw, my friend feeds kibble, I feed a raw diet.)
You have the right to tell your vet what vaccinations/medicines that you do not want your pup to have. Your vet should respect your wishes, if you have one of those vets that doesn't respect what you want and "requires" your pup to get all these things then you need a new vet.

Your poor pup, there is no reason to shove the bordatella syringe into the nose, simply resting it at the entrance of the nostril is good enough. But, like Marjorie says, it's pretty much a waste of time. One of my dogs got bordatella once, just a few days after he got a bordatella vaccine. I'm certain it was from the vaccine. None of my unvaccinated dogs have ever gotten it, even when exposed to dogs who did have kennel cough.
My dear old girl Klaire (RIP) was one of the most social dogs ever, loved people. Wasn't so crazy about the vet's but she put up with it well (with a really sad long face!) But one time during an exam she must've felt that the vet was prodding her too hard in the belly because she reached back and and gently took ahold of the vet's hand and held it in her teeth so that the vet stopped. She didn't growl, didn't bare her teeth, didn't put any pressure on the hand (note: she was bite trained! very good in bitework!) Her message was pretty clear "please stop poking me!"
Back when I was in high school I got really sick and had to stay home for a long time, had nurses who stopped in every few days to check my vitals and draw blood, etc. Well one day a new nurse came, my picc line was clogged and she couldn't draw blood from it, so she needed to take it from a vein. She was so incredibly inept, she must've poked me 20+ times. I was in tears from the pain and I told her "If I was a dog, I would bite you right now"
haha, maybe they should've sent me to training for that "aggressive" remark.

I'm still reading about the Lyme vaccination I'm in NE Ohio not a high area for Lyme but I am on the border of PA where I see its rampant.
He didn't even bite the vet he only jerked his head and tried to jump off the table. My thought was she can't handle a puppy what will she do when he's 90lbs. Your dog sounds like she was a wonderful girl Euro...I can't imagine the thought when the day comes and they cross that rainbow bridge..Atticus is only 16 weeks old and I already love him so much! Thanks to all of you who gave me your expert advise :) Atticus will love you for it lol

If the dog got a DHLPP it did get Lepto- thats what the L in the initials is for :( Hopefully, he didnt get it yet...
I would be a dangerous person if a vet ever gave my dog 2 rabies vaccinations so close to each other, especially with other shots. He should have his license pulled. I would complain to the state veterinary board.

Eskridge, I live in central Ohio area. The only vaccinations that concern me, that I want my puppies to have, is parvo and distemper, and then rabies when age appropriate. After my pups have finished their puppy booster routine (for parvo/distemper) I don't vaccinate my dogs for anything other than rabies for the rest of their lives. Unless some major epidemic happens I don't ever foresee changing this for my pets.
