You see on here all the time, people going on & on about how so & so is known for producing good/bad hips. What about elbows? It doesn't seem like they are discussed all that much, yet I feel that is a very important part of the whole breeding picture.
So what dogs or bloodlines seem to consistantly produce good or bad elbows? What are your thoughts on the way elbows are rated?

So is it that there isn't any good info available on what dogs produce good/bad elbows or do people just not care?

Hmmmm... Not that I think it is or is not a problem. I just was truly curious if anyone has kept track of "elbow" the way so many keep track of "hips".

Also there is not much talk about back problems either. I think they all need to be addressed. Maybe this is so because hip evaluations/requirements have been in place for so much long than elbows or spines and these other issues just need more time,unfortunately, to catch up.

The elbow evaluation is at a very young stage which makes it more suceptible to human error Getting Hips and elbow,s checked are very important. I have a male that at 2 years of age OFA rated his elbows as Grade 1 djd and the same dog that was worked until he was seven had a independent review from a ortho vet that says at 7 years of age there are no sign,s of any joint manifistaions present and at time of review had clear elbow,s. It,s always good to recheck.

I'm in a similar situation. I had my dog prelimed at 22 months and was OFA clear. Had the officials done at 25 months and he is Grade 1 for DJD in the right elbow. I think I'm gonna have them done by an orthopedic specialist and re-submit. Any thoughts on OFA or SV?

May be because elbows are just pass or fail, no grade at the OFA.
