FWIW, the maternal half has some good WGSL dogs in gen 4 & 5. Includes Vegas, Banderas in a team Arlett breeding, Haus Milesivac, Zellwarand... She's also linebred 6-7 on VA3(I) V9(BSZS 2001) Til vom Lechtal SCHH3, 6 - 7 on VA1 Bax von der Luisenstraße and 7,7-7 on VA1 Ulk von Arlett. Also, just because I don't follow AKC breeders, I would not label those dogs as BYB products. I looked into some if the 4 gen paternal dogs and it is further back, but there are some good genetics there from lines that reproduce downstream. To be honest, it's been a cursory look, but I would not knock a pedigree on the basis of my ignorance of the dogs that make it up. Growing a sport or a following of a breed or subject matter implies encouragement.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to answer and offer insight. I truly appreciate it! Also, thank you to the admin. I'm not sure what the negative comment was, so you must have caught it quickly.

Thank you. I'll add my two cents. It's been a pattern for some time here to "jump & dump" on novices who have "hopes and dreams" in a derisive manner, which sours these newcomers to the breed. We should be supportive of newcomers just as others were of us when we didn't know anything. Even now, I learn things on a weekly or even daily basis. These attitudes have reduced the activity in what once was a very dynamic forum in less than a decade. Those who want to breed, will do so regardless of the postings of posters. Let's steer them to better mates to their dogs, instead of having them breed to whatever is available. If it is going to happen (you won't sway them), let's try to ensure the outcome improves the breed. Let them find out that it's a hard pursuit.

If we were as supportive of promoting our breed as others are of crap-commercial mutts (labradoodles) and more eager to help newcomers positively rather than hector at them and run the breed apostates on a rail with a garnish of tar and feathers, we might see some improvements.

We need to promote GSD ownership. WL are not for everyone. Neither are WGSL. But, a good dog should not set you back several thousand dollars... Personally, I think all lines have been softened for commercial ends. But, if we continue with the stupid attitude, the shrinking base will further shrink into irrelevance and we will see our sports, clubs and breed disapear.

But, at least they were rhetorically pure, even if it destroys the future of the breed and community.

Just my personal opinion.

You've been very kind, and I appreciate it. I have no intentions of breeding her. I actually had her spayed. There is nothing that particularly suggested to me that she was a specimen that was going to better the breed, and I didn't want to risk pyo by leaving her intact. I do want to understand more about her lines, though, and you have certainly helped me. I have loved GSDs my whole life, and am just now learning more of the "nuts and bolts" about a dog being well bred vs just purebred, what to look for in a dog's lines, etc. I will continue to enjoy my dog for the sweet, pretty goofball she is, and I will definitely go through a better breeder next time. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your insight!
