Exporting pup from the EU. - Page 1

I have recently become interested in importing a GSD pup from the EU. I have been told by some breeders that shipping before 5 months of age is not permitted. Does this vary by country or is it for all EU countries? If it does differ can someone please point me to a list of age limitations per country.

You can get a puppy from Germany at 8 weeks old. There's a list of countries that are rabies free that you can import from at 8 weeks. Countries that are not rabies free require permission from CDC or can't be imported until 30 days after their vaccination, so not until they are four months old. Look up requirements from CDC, APHIS, and US Customs and Border Patrol.

I recently imported 3. 2 females and one male.

8-10 weeks seems to be normal. Usually the breeder is the deciding entity.

Actually, in the US, federal regulations restrict the importation of puppies that are being brought in for resale to a minimum age of 6 months. Individuals can import puppies for themselves at 8 weeks of age, however.

I know that it's quite common for people to import one for themselves and one to sell, and for breeders and brokers to bring in complete litters for resale, but that's because the Federal agency that is charged with enforcing the restrictions is understaffed and underfunded since being assigned the responsibilities. Eventually, however, they will start enforcing the regulations, and it will be interesting to see what happens then.

Amusing inconsistency (to give you all a giggle) - last time I was involved in any of these matters was when we sent pups to someone abroad, and had to leave that until they were old enough for, and had received, Rabies injections. From a country that does not have Rabies (England), to one in the Middle East, that does !

(Yes I do realise that meant our puppies would be safer when they got there; but I don't think that was Governmental rationale in the receiving country ...)
