Folks & fellow GSD lovers
My Male GSD 40 months old has been having skin lesions & time again biting his back due to itch. Vet's are not able to conclude if its Alergic Dermitis (CAD in perticular) or GSD pyoderma. So need your inputs and advise to help my poor boy get better. Looking at his condition and symptoms i am suspecting its Pyoderma but he has never given full symptoms of either till date. Please advise
Regards

Please give more information - what has your vet done so far to diagnose and treat it?
He/she should have at least done a skin scraping and microscopic analysis to check for parasites, etc. as well as a black light test to check for a fungal infection. Also, if there is a lot of pus or discharge from the lesions, they can take a swab to see what sort of bacteria is present, then prescribe appropriate treatment.
Is the dog on any sort of flea and tick medication? Where does it live? Is it indoors or outdoors most of the time? Do you change/wash its bedding frequently? What sort of biting parasites and insects might it be exposed to?
I am guessing from your name that your are in a tropical country, possibly India. Hot temperatures can cause skin problems with dogs like German shepherds that have a thick, double coat. Do you brush your dog frequently to remove dead hair?

I had a pup once that was diagnosed with puppy pyoderma and the vet recommended Head and shoulders original formula shampoo. It cleared right up. Had one more outburst and bathed again with Head and shoulders and never again an incident.

Yep ... "puppy" pyoderma. I've never come across a 'pyoderma' (spots) not caused by something else, in anything the age of the OP's dog. Don't even know where he got the title "GSD Pyoderma" from, not a term I have heard. Wonder where that originated ? Am sure Sunsilver is right to ask those questions. Ashwin, we can only try to help if you come back with some answers.

food allergens blood work , is probably the food, and/or too much bathing, add coconut-olive-flaxseed oils to food
Good luck

Flax is a common allergen for dogs…this shouldn't be in dog food and should never be given as a supplement.

Plenty of commercial foods available that contain linseed, as a better alternative.
Sounds more like Flea Allergy Dermatitis than any food reaction, to me; but I say again, not a way to suggest a cure without full information available to help determine cause !
