I have a dog that is now 2 and has been housebroken for the last 20 months, all of the sudden he is peeing when I take him to visit a house that he always goes to and now he is peeing in my house when I let him out of the crate I need help

When you let him out of the crate at home, are you putting him outside right away to relieve himself? Are there any changes to the household, people, pets, etc? Are there any other dogs at your friend's place? These are all things that we need to know to help determine if this is a behavioural issue, a maturing thing or what.

Get him checked for urinary tract infection or bladder stones
by your vet, asap.

Are there (by any chance) any other dogs in the houses that may be peeing on things? My male German Shepherd is house-trained really well, but when my son's 15 year old dog comes over my dog will pee over where the old dog sneaks and pees. I am pretty sure my dog is marking territory. Once I get it cleaned up (really good with spray that eliminates urine smells) my dog will go 8 hours or all night without peeing in the same spot again. He wakes me up every morning whining by my bedside to let me know I need to take him outside. If your dog doesn't have urinary infection or stones he may be marking his territory.

Have you tried taking a piss in your garden or when you go to your friends house ?

by Hundmutter on 05 April 2016 - 11:04
Worry FIRST about WHY he may be doing it; then you
can decide how to stop him, based on that information.
GET HIM TO THE VET first.

This is all very good advice...
PROBLEMS:
1-Medical (does he have an infection or is it something else)
2-Maturing (he is at the age of maturity-which means he's beginning to be interested in mating)
3-This ALL has to do with MARKING...or Leaving his scent...or covering another animal's scent to leave his...
**I think you said you use a crate...Is he making any mistakes in his crate?

Agree the dogs age may have something to do with
the sudden onset of this problem - but in the absence
of any answers to posters' questions from the OP,
first things first ! The OP stated the dog WAS house
broken; stands to reason the first thing which should
be checked is physical cause. This dog may be in
real pain or discomfort.
And then ... if he is in perfect health, we can only advise
on how to stop it IF we get feedback on questions re is
there any other male coming into these homes; how long
is he crated for at a time; etc . Cure will depend on cause
to some extent or other. Otherwise you are expecting an
answer out of the vacuum !

I would get a fresh catch in sterile bottle if possible and take the urine into your vet for culture and sensitivity test, usually takes about 72 hours. They will grow the urine out to see what if any unusual bacteria is present and if there are some bugs, test to see what antibiotic it might be sensitive to. Or what the best antibiotic is for this problem, if any might be needed. That is first on my list.
Before going anywhere make sure he has pee'd in his own yard; and try to see if he is drinking more water than usual; if he is drinking more than he usually does that is also a sign of a urinary tract infection and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Also can be signs of other things but for now, test urine first... Good luck Nan
