About two months ago, I lost my first german shepherd to old age. So I went on the hunt to find myself another dog. I searched all over the net and I came across a dog in a rescue. A purebred german shepherd with strange markings. She was rescued from an abusive home, we didn't get much on her background. We were given her AKC name, birthday and a little bit about her history that the rescue knew.

I came across this site because I got a comment that she looked like a hobo german sheperd. All I know, is she is one of a kind.. I never seen any other close to her. She has a light cream/light gray undercoat, that really shows through when she moves around. The underside of her tail, back of her hind legs are that light cream color almost white color. Anyways here are some photos of her.

Storm, loves to wear ties by the way.

She has what's called a reverse mask. It's a recessive trait, and it was the 'signature' feature of the dogs that starred in the Littlest Hobo TV series:

The Hobo dogs were more silver and white than your dog, and many people still think they were husky mixes due to their colour and markings. Not true: I know someone who was good friends with their owner Chuck Eisenman, and I've also read all of his books. Though he was very careful not to reveal the dogs' bloodlines, to keep them from being exploited, he makes it clear that these dogs were carefully bred PUREBRED GSDs. I can also show you pictures of other purebred GSDs that have similar markings. Here's one that REALLY surprised the heck out of me!

Here's one of my own dogs that had a reverse mask:

It took me stumbling across this site to finally figure out what her coloration was. It had been bugging me since I found her because with all the research I had done into the coloration of Shepherd coats, I never saw anything close to what she was. I had people ask me if she was a husky/shepherd mix or just asume she was. I even had one asked if she was a collie. Everytime I had to explain that she was a purebred but had  unique markings. She is only my second shepherd, my first was a blond and black shepherd.

Yesterday someone mention something about "little hobo" markings in a photo I posted on my deviantart account, I started to dig into it. And came across this site and lots of pictures that made it look like I was seeing a double of Storm. Found the series on youtube and started to watch it. Storm is really smart and even makes sounds that make it sound like she is speaking. She has one sound that sounds like she is saying out and another that is sounds like no. Anytime she wants to go outside, she makes that out sound and its adorable.

They are beautiful dogs and I am so honored that I can have such a unique looking shepherd in my life. When we got her, she was skin and bones. Barely weighed sixty pounds soaking wet. Her fur was so rough and barely there, it was almost like petting a very thin coated wire hair. It's been two months since we had her and she is roughly up to 80lbs and her coat is finally starting to thicken up and regain its softness. She still has a fear of men that we are trying to work her pass.  Finally managed to get her into the bathtub for the second bath since we had her and worked a bit with her with her fear of the shower hose.

I was so pissed to learn that she was abused and mistreated but no she is having a wonderful life and getting to enjoy all those things she should have from the start. The people who run the rescue where got her said that she already had two litters that they knew about and the poor girl is only 2 1/2 years old.

I´m glad you found her!
Her eyes are very expressive, she must have undergone a lot of bad things during her life.
Time to conjure a smile on her face!

When we got her she was so skiddish, I couldn't even get her near running water, she still has the fear of men and doesn't like it when there is any loud noises by our doors. Had a hard time getting her to eat any dry food so we had to stick her on a raw diet just to get her to eat. But she loves her cheese and chicken. Took her out for ice cream last weekend and to a couple of pet stores for her to go into. She on her way to being one spoiled rotten puppy dog now. Nothing but happniess here on out for her. Speaking of smiles, she has one very goofy one.

Love it !!!
There will always be sad moments she remembers, but the more positive moments she will experience, the less she will remember her former life.

Thank you for loving her as she is!
