No commands, especially one-word commands, but you are allowed to encourage.  At the Nationals, I was on the field for a bit helping and it was interesting to see the difference in handlers.  Some were afraid to say anything to encourage because they didn't want to influence the test and the evaluators would have to encourage the handlers to encourage the dogs.  Some talked non-stop the whole way through "What a good boy!  What's that noise?  Well, let's go see!"  Conversation, encouragement, comfort were all fine.  No commands, no putting them in working mode, loose leash.

As to CHIC, you betcha!  That's what got all this started.  Been looking for a test since Feb so that we could finish up CHIC.  They send the results from their home office straight to CHIC and the status will be automatic once it hits their office and is processed.  I don't have to apply, is my understanding.  I would still have to do the blood draw part if I choose to (and likely will since I have to draw blood for thyroid, anyway).  And the thyroid will also finish up my girl for the Health Award of Merit since we have met all the other requirements!!  :)

What is the difference between a CC and the Temperament test? Not so much the difference in tests but what the results mean? Does one offer any advantage over another? Do they basically mean the same thing or are they viewed differently in the eyes of the AKC?

I've not heard of the health award of merit. Is there a link? My female had her CHIC cert when I got her, she also passed her cardic and thyroid tests.  I don't know if you need to apply or not.

cutaway, this is the link explaining the GSDCA temperament test. You can find the information on the CGC (is that what you are asking about?) by googling Canine Good Citizen. AKC recognize the CGC as a title.
