I think the tests are generally held in conjunction with specialties or sponsored as as stand alone events by local GSD clubs. There will be one at the NS at Purina Farms shortly after the Sieger. Not sure how hard they are to find and I'm not sure they are really advertised well either. We used to hold the tests in conjunction with the Tampa Bay specialty show, but there hasn't been a test for a few years. I'm not sure if there wasn't enough interest or if it was too difficult to find a tester to do it.  I entered a dog at the last one and there were about 14, 15 entries and about half passed if I remember right.

Good ideas, Smiley. I don't think either they should be eliminated for a CHIC, but substituting the ATTS test sounds like a good idea.  I'll pass that on to a board member.

The temperament test is a joke. Requie a BH, that actually tells you something about the dogs temperament.

I disagree, it's not a joke and not all dogs can pass it. I saw 2 well bred Sch3 dogs fail it and know of several others who did too.

LOL, so i the BH as a temperament test.

I guess everyone has their own opinion on both of these, but unless we've tried both, it's just that - an opinion.  Right?

I tried both. My Schutzhund titled female passed both.  I know some dogs don't pass. I think it sad that it is used to judge breedable temperament.  At least the BH at a minimum does a better job testing temperaments. My opinion, I still think it is a joke.

The BH was never used as a test for "breedable temperament".
This "test" was introduced as a minimum of an education test ( necessary over here, especially for the bigger breeds ).
Some standard commands, neutral behavior ( cars, bicycles, people ).
BH test: Is the dog in question well educated and socialized ? Yes/No
Again - this is NO temperament test.

Both my Sch 3 and my ASL passed both too. When I trialed my Sch 3, I was told up front to not even think about giving her any commands in German Teeth Smile. Actually I think I learned a little  more about both of these dogs by trialing them in both venues. It was interesting seeing how differently they both reacted to the threatening stranger. I didn't really consider either to be a test of  breed worthiness. For me, they were opportunities to know and understand my dogs a little better. Same for the CGC, considered nothing more than a game by many. Another chance to see how your dog responds to different real life situations.

@Susie - Why do you say the BH is not a "temperament test"? Not challenging you, just looking for further clarification on why. Isnt the dogs temperament under evaluation during phase "B"
