WANTED:
I am a 100% disabled american veteran with severe PTSD and I am seeking an older/retired female German Shepherd as a faithful companion whom will be with me all the time.  As a person with PTSD personal safety is of utmost conern to me and having a german shepherd as a companion has assisted me in feeling emotionally safe.  Unfortunately a couple years ago my faighful companion died and bluntly I do not have the financial ability to purchase a well bred, extremely well tempermented female gsd.  I do have a lot of love, can handle any regular vet expeneses including spaying.  I am willing to arrange and pay for SAFE and reasonable transportation if she is more than 200 miles from NJ.
I must request that she be and adult female shepherd, with basic obedience, gets along with other female dogs and good around children (i have grandchildren and they have a dog).  There is a private dog park within 10 miles of me which I may join for her to have 2 acres of off leash play space, as well as i live in a community that borders the pine land national preserve which is wonderful for on leash hiking and walking as well as 4 miles of quiet streets for strolling.  My home is modest, my lifestyle quiet...fall/winter walks on the beach, there is a swimming area nearby that permits dogs,,,,and i have a big towel for the dog and one for the back seat of the car.
Please do not ask me for thousands of dollars, I will just have to sadly say no thank you.  I can promise you she will have a wonderful loving home, and will go wherever I go,,,,via the car, or on foot, or train...I have had german shepherds most of my life and am truly a lover of gsd's...I am more than willing to provide verification of my status as a 100% Disabled American Veteran; at the time of our meeting.
Please contact me through this site.

IMO - be careful, there are also a bunch of scams like this...
If someone wants to do this, I suggest going and delivering the dog personally, only after checking references.

I have a bitch that will be 8 next month that I would be willing to place in an excellent home.  She was spayed a few months ago.  He doesn't say how disabled he is though.  The girl I have is still very much an active working dog and you better be fast throwing her balls and know how to handle a working GSD.  She isn't bitch aggressive, but she is dominant with other females, especially other female GSDs.  She is very responsive to her handler though, so if you know what you're doing it wouldn't be a problem.  She lives in the house and is very calm and easy to live with inside.  Bring her outside and she's ready to go work.

Like Sitasmom and Q Man stated, there are some concerns about whether this is a legit request.  I am way out in Idaho, so can't check the guy out personally.  Anyone over that way that could confirm legitimacy?

Just being a behaved dog with a disabled vet is not a qualification to be a service dog. The dog must be trained in tasks that make the disabled person able to be as whole as possible hence the term SERVICE dog. Just being with them or comforting is not a qualifying task. All of these things and people asking for dogs is being severly abused and now even dog flippers ask for dogs then sell them as trained service dogs. I am all for helping people and have always done so, but people please do your homework. Service dog training and supply is one of the biggest scams out there right now.

I am somewhat of a skeptic because this person says how much they NEED a dog but it has been TWO years since their last dog died.  So if they can go two years why is it that they seem so desperate now for a dog.

Just a companion is needed it they say do not ask for Service dog training, so Yes why not go to the Rescues and Shelters and get one.

Why do they/ask need a registered trained FEMALE german shepherd.

Obviously anyone that may want to help place a dog with this person must do their due diligence. Is that really all that difficult for any reasonable adult to know and understand? If it's a scam and you get ripped off by this person (or by any scammer) you're just as much at fault as the scammer.

GSDNewbie, his ad doesn't say, SERVICE dog. It says, FAITHFUL COMPANION!

Western Rider, Where does this person's ad say anything about a "registered" dog? Did you make that up on your own? Where does it say that the person is desperate? Where does it say they need one? The person simply said they don't have the money to afford a well bred GSD and they want one. The person asks that the dog have a little obedience training and can get along with other dogs and children. I have run a rescue for 15 years. This is a common request by almost anyone wanting to adopt a dog. Get your info straight before posting!

Maybe this person has had a difficult time finding what he wants and somehow came across this web site while doing a search for available German Shepherds? Maybe someone told him to look on this web site since it's been the great dumping ground for German Shepherds worldwide for more than a decade?? Again, in any dealings with someone you don't know, especially on the internet, do your homework.

K9gsd78, it might be a good home. I wouldn't dismiss him without trying to verify his inquiry.

OGBS I did say Registered and they never said that I agree just my thought process I only think in terms of retired females as being registered and trained.

Desperate the whole request seems that way to me, like this is a last hope to get a dog.

Just for the record I have sent 5 girls to someone I know who trains them for service for PTSD work so not against that.  I am just worried about the dog, how many times do you read about these types of things being scams and the dog  suffers. Yes research is the key.
