Well, by the "rule" about any tan behind the ears meaning b&t, then she's what I'd call a "melanistic" b&t w/a very dark mask. Very pretty!  Her amount of color on her chest is a lot more than most biclors have (I'm doing a point by point between her and the bicolor at my feet) and her leg markings seem to be fading. My gut instinct is genetically, she's a black and tan. REMEMBER, Germany makes no distinction for bicolor! Capri is listed just like any black and tan dog and there is zero argument that she's a bicolor.

EK071391- Mother is 100% Czech and father is 1/4 East German WL and 3/4 West German SL.
GSD Genetics- There are black and sable dogs on both sides of the pedigree, as well black & tans/reds.

mirasmom, I had no idea they could get darker as they matured and I was surprised to see this happen with my girl. I am amazed at the transition with Rollie. I must say that the tar heel and pencil markings are MUCH more pronounced on Rollie than on my girl.
Jenni, Thank you for your assessment! She doesn't actually have tan hair behind the ears, but more to the base and sides of the ears, near the cheek area. The photos below may help. She also has brown/tan hair around the perimeter of her ears.   If she is genetically black and tan I am good with that :) I wasn't aware that Germany makes no distinction between B&T and bicolor. See, I knew this would be a learning experience!
