I think you got yourself a beautiful dog and it sounds like he will be a lot of "fun." I actually contacted Westside about him and they said someone had just adopted him. I guess that is you. Congratulations.Have fun.

Alice, I should've checked your CV page before I asked if Huck was home forever...barring catastrophe, it seems pretty clear that no matter what new and unique behaviors he demonstrates to you, not to mention ones that the average owner would consider to be a deal-breaker, you're game to work it out with him.  From what I read of your sadly abbreviated time with retired K9 Major, it sounds as if you are the perfect person for Huck to get hooked up with, and I hope you'll keep us updated on how he's doing.  Are you considering training him for SAR and/or cadaver work, with the nose he's shown you so far?

He's a gorgeous dog, and it sure sounds like he's got the perfect home now, with someone who can appreciate an eccentric dog whose agenda wouldn't mesh with the typical pet owner. Lucky boy!!

Hexe, impressive, isn't it ?  Wow, is Huck a lucky lad !   For one thing,
its clear Alice is already noticing things, because she is so experienced
in scent detection work, that an 'ordinary' rehomer might have missed.
My crystal ball predicts an interesting future for him - if he doesn't escape
before he settles !

I was at a local horse show.. and this gorgeous dog walked by.. I did a double take.. This boy was around a year old.. had the carriage and grace and moved like a Shepherd.. I had to ask.. yes the mother was a solid black German import and the daddy was a ooops traveling salesman...Half blue merle Aussie and a West German Shepherd... I know this picture isn't the best.. but when I saw this post I had to look this picture up in my phone!!! He was/is gorgeous! They had just had him neutered and was socializing him.

I am so glad to see he is doing well with you. And, wow, what a great looking property.

Actually, I don't think Huck von Haren is a German Shepherd mix at all. Compare him to a Belgian Malinois and you will see he looks much more like that than a German Shepherd. So I'd say a Belgian Malinois x Australian Shepherd is the more likely mix for Huck. Malinois do often get confused with German Shepherds due to sightly similar looks and coloring. I have even seen a purebred Malinois that was fawn with a very dark black saddle and mask like many GSDs are.
