I have noticed something among SOME (not all necessarily) but some of the DDR dogs that I have been seeing lately have really domey shaped type heads. I had read a thread previously about the extremes in heads that some WGSL people are trying to do and they are creating a dog that looks almost mastiff-like in type. Why are the DDR dogs' heads looking like this, when it is so frowned upon in the show line world? I'm not trying to start any arguments, I'm just relatively new to the breed and have liked some DDR dogs that I have seen but I'm trying to learn about them more and why some of them have really dome shaped heads.

Like all other characteristics in the breed, actually any breed, its the breeders and what they breed for that creates this.  They may not be purposely trying to produce that "dome" type head, head. However when linebreeding and concentrating on other traits, the other traits are double up also. JMO

What DDR linebreedings commonly produce these more dome shaped heads?

by Hutchins on 10 August 2013 - 21:08

Sorry Bluemoon, I am not a DDR breeder therefore I am not familiar with what lines produce certain traits.  I did own a DDR import female but she did not have that dome head nor did she produce it in the 2 litters we had with her.  Hopefully the DDR breeders here will help you with your questions.

I. I am a big fan of the DDR dogs, I actually have a few.
I would like to know which dogs you are referring to with the "domey" heads.
I know several breeders that breed DDR dogs also, and none breed for dome heads.
A DDR should have a nicely defined head AND build.
Could you elaborate on which dogs you are referring to.
I also have showlines, and know several breeders of those lines also.
NONE of which try to get malformed heads, again, elaborate please

The one that I saw in particular was on k9stud.com.

If you look at his pictures on the kennel's website and you go to the last picture that is a head shot, IMO I think his head is just a little too dome shaped. I may be wrong, but as a DDR fan, kitkat, I'm hoping that you could possibly educate me a little more on the subject.

I guess Bluemoon I'm not getting what you're saying. I don't think Wyatt has a dome shaped head at all. I think he has a nice DDR head..................JMO

I agree von- that is a typical, classic DDR look. Exactly what you would expect to see.
I don't know what you would like to be educated about Bluemoon with regards to the DDR dogs.

Isn't Wyatt one of the more recent DDR studs dogs being used alot that is influencing the breed today?  I see him in alot of pedigrees.
