Hips look fair to good; our right side of the screen (probably left hip) is a little over extended in that the knee is turned inward slightly more than it should be for the x-ray. Looks like a little remodeling is going on in the left hip but overall, I think probably a fair. I would like to see a little deeper hip socket on left side also. Sorry don't do elbows but those look clean without problems. Best of luck Nan

Cannot see the elbow films well enough. I think will be lucky if get fair on the hips. If you look at one side at a time not too terrible may be fair, however look at both sockets in relation to each other and compare them. Left socket shallower and narrower not such a good seating and not a fan of the laxation/ angle I am seeing in it. the size of the bones in this side also vary greatly from the other side. Right socket loose, bone size and thickness a little bit better, however thicker in everything than the right and to me is like two different dogs, but I still do not like the wide opening in the socket and laxation as well as it could benefit from being just a little bit deeper into the socket.
I am by no means an expert so I hope I am wrong, please let us know what is said that we all may continue to learn by our mistakes in our guesses on the critiques.

The hips don't look symmetrical because the positioning is not symmetrical. The left side looks more shallow (subluxated) because the pelvis is titled. The holes in the pelvis, the obturator foramen, are not symmetrical. We can't see the wings of the pelvis, but if we could it would be clear they they too are not symmetrical. I believe OFA has already prelimed this dog as fair. This is one of those close calls IMO where a perfectly positioned film could make the difference between an OFA pass or fail.
When the pelvis is tilted, the side nearest the xray machine always appears larger. In this case, the right side.

The sockets are too shallow. I would guess fair.
Here's what they SHOULD look like:

P.S. It's 'prelims' as in 'preliminary', not 'prelimbs' Just a pet peeve of mine....

I'm going with fair right now, but in another year they may change for better or for worse.
Left ball has a slight pointed edge to the lower side...Right is very shallow.

I hope you will let us know what OFA says about both of your dogs, Zigzag. Given this one is only 12 months, they may say borderline and ask for another xray at a later date.
