Hello! We have an 8 month old Sable female. She started out very dark, got much lighter, turned very dark again, and is now getting lighter once again. Is this normal for all Sables?

Hi! Yes, it sure is normal, and part of the fun of a sable pup! Sables will change colors sometimes until 3 years old, going darker, lighter, darker, etc.. Also you may even notice a subtle difference between the summer and winter coat color once your dog is fully mature.

My bitch went through stages like that, at one point she had blonde patches all over her, it looked terrible! You'll notice sables change in the winter, summer....my girl finally stopped getting so light when she was about 2, she actually ended up a little darker then what I thought she would.
