So, I found a Schutzhund trainer in Norfolk, England pretty close to where I live. One of my friends also has a GSD, and she took her boy there for training. The trainers loved her dog, but she wasn't able to be as demanding/forceful (if those are the right words?) of her dog as they wanted, so she eventually stopped going. I was wondering if anyone else has seen/heard of this place and what you think about it.

As a side note, I think they're still working on updating their website.

Have you looked if Vislor is close by? They are absolutely amazing and awesome. So if it is within a reasonable distance, I'd chose them over anyone else.

It's actually on the other side of the country from me Wondering

I'm on the east coast, the Suffolk/Norfolk area.

I can recommend Lakatamia wholeheartedly.  I've known Adrian Hornsby for years, very talented trainer, one of the best in UK.  Not really competed much since training the reserve National Champion some years ago, rather too busy with his club, East Anglia, enjoying his own dogs and coaching a schutzhund team in  Sweden.  Go see him, you will be impressed.

' Word of mouth'  is useful;  but beware of letting one friend's report
put you off ... your friend may genuinely not be firm enough with
their dog to get it to work !  That may be a reflection on your friends
dog skills, not what was asked of them by the Club.

As with all TCs, Schutzhund or Pet Obedience or any other, best bet
is to arrange to go and sit in on a session (without your dog), and
pay close attention to the methods used and the results being gained,
and how comfortable you feel with the trainer.

FWIW I, like Margaret, have only heard good things about Lakatamia,
and it is well established in terms of operating years.

I have trained with Adrian for years and like his methods, which are strict, but very motivational and do not include harsh handling or electic.  He is straightforward, will tell you what your dogs strengths and weaknesses are and what you need to do if you want to succeed, not always what the owner wants to hear, but invariably correct.

Hundmutter, my friend did actually admit to me when she was first telling me that she wasn't able to be strict enough in order to maintain his training. She had left her dog there for a week, and she said the difference was huge- she just isn't the type of person to be as firm as needed. That being said, he's the best trained dog I've seen around here that isn't a police or military dog.

Margaret, thanks for letting me know about Lakatamia. I'd be really interested to see what he has to say about Shelby- it's always nice to have an unbiased opinion :-) I'll see if I can set up something with him.

Quite simply, Adrian is the best trainer we have.......

Really? Man, then I really hope he likes Shelby. She's starting to get to that point where the normal training we've been doing with her just isn't satisfying for her anymore. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to give him a call. Wish me luck!!! Teeth Smile
