Baerenfangs Erbe

by Baerenfangs Erbe on 04 July 2013 - 23:07

Yukon, Yorkan and Wiandra seem to be the last ones. Does anyone know if there are any other Baerenfang dogs alive or if there is still any direct offspring of Baerenfang dogs?

Bill Kulla & Jennifer Acevado's foundation bitch for their vom Geistwasser breeding program, Ayla vom Haus Lohre, was a Wotan v Baerenfang daughter. According to their website, while they lost Ayla in 2010, they have two of her daughters in their program; one of them, Mia, was just confirmed in whelp and is due this month. I've never had any dealings with them, but the kennel has an excellent reputation, in regard to both the dogs they've produced and how pleasant and helpful they when folks have contacted them for information. They might be your best source as to where you might find dogs that are only a generation or two removed from the vom Baerenfang stock.

Harvey Allen in Orange Cty, CA, has a Champ Baerenfang grandson. granddaughter, Olly Rassestandard. [My mistake--the website didn't indicate the gender, the name sounded like a male's name to me. Turns out Olly is a female, when I found a 7 yr. old Champ great-grandson @ Happy Valley Kennels in TN who is out of Olly.]  It looks like Olly was actually at Vom Haus Langford, and Harvey Allen was just the importer; maybe vh Langford kept sons or daughter of Olly for their program?

vom Webbhaus has/had a Champ daughter out of Tim & Lori Cruser's vom Willowind breedings, Izra vom Willowind; they may have kept some of her offspring for their breeding program [she would be 13 this year]. It would also be worth checking with Tim & Lori Cruser, since I believe they were the last owners of Champ...they might be able to direct you to breeders who used Champ while he was with them.

Thank you. I will send him an email.

I am wondering if there are more dogs out there. Please, if anyone knows of any other Baerenfang stock, I would really like to know.

What's the claim to fame of the baerenfang dogs...

Well, in this case, I think that in part it would be a sentimental attachment, as I believe the OP's parents established the Baerenfang lines.

That is correct. I am the daughter. We were supposed to have one last litter which I should have gotten a pup from. However, the female didn't carry and she is to old now. My father is my mentor. I was hoping to find a pup that is either a daughter or 3rd generation Baerenfang.
Either way, I'm keeping an eye out for what is actually still out there.

Baerenfangs Erbe, I'd be doing exactly the same thing; this bloodline is your birthright. I hope you're able to share your life with another Baerenfang-lineage dog soon.

I hope so too. Especially since my male is becoming a Senior and I know my father likes the thought of the line being preserved, he's the one who is bugging me constantly about to look specifically for Olko and Orly vom Baerenfang in pedigrees. Wink Smile

Have you considered collecting your male, and putting some semen on 'ice'?  It may be well worth it if he's still got  good sperm count, motility and morphology...

In 1998, Shiloh breed founder imported Artus Zum Soehrewald, a grandson of Cim v. Baerenfang, to the States to use as an outcross for her dogs. Artus was also linebred on the Baerenfang dogs on his mother's side.

Here's how he reacted after getting off the plane:

Artus arrived in the US on March 16, 1998. "After 23 hours in a crate, when I picked Artus up at the airport, he stepped out on the dock like he owned the place! I put a leash on him, and he walked down a flight of (open-grated) icy stairs like it was nothing! In the dark, strange new place, he grabbed my scarf to play and slipped out of his collar, while a plane was taking off! "I know that many 3 mo. old dogs would have spooked under such conditions! I just said "here" and he came right back to my side, so that I could put his collar back on. Who could ask for a better reaction?"*

Artus was not SV registered, but was instead registered with the Altdeutscher Schaeferhund Verband.  His parents, Xandro Imperial and Quanti v. Schloss Birkenstein were (I thnk) SV dogs.

If Artus had the sort of character typical of the Baerenfang lines, no wonder you want to preserve this line!
