Well.....to make a long story short....
My lab Della had a long whelping period, so in the end we had to remove two dead pups
from her, and I had her spayed.
So, while Della is resting and recovering from her operation, Tessie, her girlfriend is
taking over for her
Tessie's pups were born June 21st and Della the Lab had her pups June 29th,
Tessie had 3 boys that did not survive, so she is in heaven caring for the 5 boy pups from Della

I love a strong maternal instinct like this in a brood bitch. It's so much a part of the whole temperament and instinctive drives package, and can be forgotten by some in favor of greater intensity in the other channels, just as the ability and willingness to breed is lost in some individuals in the breed. Tessie looks quite satisfied to have a multitude of babies to care for, even if they aren't the right color.

This is a lovely story, thanks for sharing ! Wow - the difference
in size of the two breeds, for pups a week apart in age, is really
noticeable.

Well done, Tessie! She looks so pleased. Sorry to hear about Della's troubles, sounds like both girls had large litters.

My Lab Della is fully recovered and back in charge, here is Tessie on her last day
of fostering Della's pups, then Della her first day back at the job;)))
