Your pups tail looks like all pups tails at this age  and he looks happy too.

Don't worry about it.

Are you saying the tail is just curling or are you saying there's a kink in the tail...like a vertebrae that's not straight...(twisted)...

what causes it? and is it normal?

From that one photo, Phil, there does not appear to be anything wrong with
the pup's tail - see as Western Rider posted.
But if you have found an actual kink, it would help if you can get another
picture which shows it, or post more explanation of what you can see/feel.

Some 'kinks' are exactly what Bob describes, a turn or break in the
vertabrae  ( spinal bones which continue into the tail).  This isn't a 'normal'
feature.  It can be genetic; it can have been caused in utero; it could have
arisen from a broken bone, perhaps by the tail getting trodden on when the
puppy was very small.  If that is what you are experiencing (although as
we said, the tail looks okay) it would be a good move to let your vet check
it out.  Most of these don't inconvenience the adult dog much - but it will
be a problem if the pup is destined for a conformation show career.

Thank you lot for your thoughts.  My pup is 10 weeks today and we had a recent trip to the Vets.  The Vets examination was fine no problems.  However at the time I didn’t notice the curl in the tail, so I did not inform the Vet but the Vet did get a good look at my puppy..

Some dogs tails are held 'curled up' more than others, which
from the conformational viewpoint isn't great either -  but it is
way too early for you to worry about that at this puppy's age.
Most baby puppies will curl their tails some of the time, this
doesn't mean they won't be carried correctly later.  Anyway, a
dog can have much worse faults !  If your pup grows up to be
a good fit to the Standard in every other way, there may still be
times he could be placed at Shows, depending on what other
examples he's up against.  If you want to concentrate more on
the work or sports side, it would be even less of a problem,  And
if you are thinking well ahead about getting him graded and
qualified, and then breeding with him:  again, it's very early days
yet and he may not turn out to be breedworthy anyhow.  Health
questions are most important;  if a dog is healthy and THEN has
a great temperament, and an excellent construction, and is very
good at whatever tasks he does, THEN you consider breeding
from him IF you can find as good bitches.  It's a crap-shoot.  JMHO !

You might like to take a look @ tedebear's post, which has just come back
up on the board. Its headed 'Breeder Integrity' but it is about a puppy
who turned out to have a kinked tail, among other problems; it includes
photos.
