Hello,
Need help! My 14 month old GSD male has been chewing on his back, tail, legs, paws since 4-5 months. I thought must be fleas so i applied spot on Advantix. There was no relief. Next month I applied fipronil spot on. There was no relief. Then next month Revolution. No relief. Finally I went to the vet. He examined and told it is superficial pyoderma and prescribed cephalexin. There was no relief even after 14 days of 950 mg per day (he weighs 34 kilos). Then he prescribed nizoral tablets. There was no relief. Finally i applied amitraz dips for 3 times at 3 weeks apart. No relief. Then bayer advocate spot on. No relief. Then
hydroxyzine tablets. No relief.
So
After all this I am sure
There are no
Ticks
Fleas
Lice
Ear mites
Sarcoptic mites
Demodex mites
Plus no
Bacterial infection
Fungal infection
Skin looks normal except few areas where there are red bumps or papules.
Where do I go from here....

Ask you vet about skin testing him. GSD's are prone to inhalation allergies.

So far it sounds like you've treated him for parasite's, fungus, and infection, but nothing for allergies.
What about a food or plant allergy? Lots of dogs are allergic to grains and poultry.
If it wasn't for him getting after his back I'd say he's walking through something that he's allergic to.

try a fish and potato diet for 10 weeks with no other protein source but fish.

Food allergy I would suspect. 2 of my 4 guys cannot take ANY type Flax; in food or not in food, liquid or flax seed, seems it is in a lot of foods these days. What are you feeding; and if at all possible I would start adding some raw to his diet. That will give him some extra fats they don't get in dry food. I would change your protein source; for instance if you are feeding a kibble with beef; change to chicken. Try if at all possible until this is solved to find a food that only has one protein. Then you can go from there and if itching comes back you know it is your protein source. Reason I mention raw is that you can control what your dog is eating, add some eggs to the diet and I would put him on a probiotic. Could be the source of your protein, or could be the fat/oil in your dogs diet and it could be the other crap in your dogs diet. Good luck Nan

He is on Royal Canin GSD Adult. I give salmon oil, b complex tablets. He has been on it since 5 months. He is not in contact with any plants. For allergy i am giving him

I bet your vet told you to use RC. Yucky food imo. Go to a limited ingredient food with one protien source like fish or beef. Try that same food for about 4 months and see how it goes. If it improves, then most likely your dog is allergic to poultry or some other disgusting ingredient in RC.
There is rice as the first ingredient, then poultry then animal fats. Oh I could go on and on how much that food ercks me.
