Well, Arko is lying on a bed in my room.
I had turned the young man down, unless he came down in price. Further, I didn't have the cash at this point, due to some medical issues that came up(Broke a molar...sigh...extraction, post/crown....sucks to "waste" that much money)...(But, on that note, if anyone is interested, I have since found some awesome dental insurance....serious, good dental insurance...will post the information in a seperate post..).
Anyway, I told the young fellow that I didn't have the $$$ right now...., and that he was better to take the offer that a breeder/kennel owner in Tampa area had offered him.
Yesterday, he contacted me, and said that he wanted me to have the dog. That he was willing to agree to whatever terms I laid out.
Yes, I have the OFA paperwork. This is a private individual, who is not going to lie, cheat/etc....with regards to OFA. He looks good(could use a dental, but, not a huge issue). He move nicely, bit whiney, but I have found that to be "normal" with GSDs.
I may not end up keeping the dog, since I have one of my pups from a litter about 20 months ago, coming back to me. Male. Rottweiler. If they don't get along, then, Arko will have to be sold/placed.
Again the terms are to my liking....The dog is nice a dog. He would make any one a nice family dog, with personal protection. I took him to Karate with me tonight, he maintained "platz" for 2 hours, with a remote collar. Again, tad whiney, but....again, the "90lb Chihuahua syndrome".
So, the final thoughts:
Young man, mid 30s. Going through a divorce. Leaving in AM for Canada to do 3 months of training, then traveling through-out Europe/Asia for the next several years.
Dog is 4 yrs of age, raised with 2 kids, small dog, no cats. Urban/City location....daily walks, often times to Dunkin Donuts, where he would maintain a down/stay while owner went in for coffee. Very nicely socialized.
Advanced off leash obedience---drivey in obedience---needs to "relax" sometimes(something to work on, will probably "retrain" in English, and leave his german commands for drivey/competition work). Needs some work on "leave it" in public. Doesn't track, but will "hunt" for his ball/toys, so tracking or detection work should be easy----good food drive. Will start retrieve tomorrow, when I feed him. He will work for his kibble.
Owner fed Orijen dog food with some raw chicken and veggies at times. Limited vaccine protocal---but current---actually, he is due for vaccines in July, but I am a minimalist, so, he will only get a three year rabies. And, that will only be given because of the law. Left up to me, he would never have another vaccine.
Again, he is a nice dog, with, btw, a good sperm count(yes, I had it checked---took him to the vet when I picked him up----remember, I haven't paid for this dog yet.
As to what titles are legit, and what are not....I do not not know if I will compete this dog in Schutzhun...it just depends on whether I can get the person I want to polish out his training, and what the charge would be....Otherwise, unlike some of you, I am content with training this dog as a guide/service dog(ultimate in training, shows ability/stability/function) He will be titled in obedience....as I said, a CDX would be easy enough in a few months, rally will be a breeze. I will show UKC conformation, fi they have it in the area still---don't know, haven't had anything to show in the last few years---least not that I cared to show. If I get a chance to show in a seiger type show, then I will...but, wont travel too far...
Stud fees: His price will lower to $500.00. If there are takers, then fine, if not, then that's ok too....Not a huge issue either way to me. I will likely have him collected, and store...I do that with any nice male dog that I have...Just because.
Thanks for everyone's advise, even those of you who were in disbelief/suspicious.....I really appreciate it. I will keep you all updated on his progress.

Good for you. I hope you enjoy him for many years to come.
I also like him comfy in the house.
I know most here are "all about the sport" and many have dogs to compete and display titles.
Me, I'm all about the dog. A new addition to my family.
A dog should be able to enjoy his life also. Not a toy to pull out when you have time to train, than put away til you find more time for him.
I'm glad you were able to get him.

Why on earth did you take him ?
" He move nicely, bit whiney, but I have found that to be "normal" with GSDs. "
Wrong breed or wrong dog...

This is disgusting - after "owning" this dog for maybe 24 hours you "trained" him with a remote collar and he had to "platz" for 2 hours???
Am I misinterpreting? Is it because of my lack of English? What´s going on here?

Please do rehome this dog. Did you only get him in your posession to make profit? I do not understand.

No, susie, there's no misinterpretation on your part.
The OP's sole interest in this dog from the start has been monetary. His lack of knowledge about the German Shepherd Dog was evident as soon as he postulated that this dog ought to be able to draw $1200.00 USD stud fee when the dog has no titles--of any type, AKC or SV-style, obedience, agility, or rat-catcher--and no breed survey, simply because he's a Quenn son with an OFA Excellent hip rating. There's no shortage of Quenn progeny, and while OFA Excellent hips are the exception rather than the rule, it doesn't guarantee that he won't produce pups that are dysplastic, nor make him any less likely to do so than a dog that is rated OFA Good or even OFA Fair--especially if this dog has siblings that were dysplastic and the OFA Good or FAIR dog's siblings were all clear of HD as well.
I hope this dog makes it to a home where he is wanted strictly for being a beautiful and loving companion, and that those qualities will be enough even if he never does acquire any titles or pull in any stud fees. He's not in such a home at the moment, even if he is lying on the OP's bed when he's in the house.

WOW...

Something puzzling you, kitkat?
by CaveCliff on 30 May 2013 - 08:05
Oh, dogs forbid...I might make some money off a dog....I train dogs to supplement my meager medical retirement, I have owned/trained GSD's for years.
Why did I take this dog, if there is a chance I might have to place him....Because the owner was in a rock and hard place. He needed to place the dog, and he had waited too long to do it. Other homes would not have done right by this dog, and it wasn't fair to the dog. With me, he will go out in public(yes, after owning him for a short time, he was expected to do a down/stay, as he has been trained to do since he was a year of age) with me, he will hang out, eat well, play alot and go for long runs. And, btw, he was trained on a remote, and unlike many out there, I use a remote properly---it isn't for "shock and awe", it is simply to be used as a nudge...This collar was set on a "1"(tri-tronics sport)...most of the time, like many dogs I seen IMPROPERLY TRAINED WITH A REMOTE Collar, simply putting it on does the trick---never actually have to use it, just put it on the dog.
As to stud fees....I will charge what I will charge, and no the dog has not be collected yet. The owner doesn't seem to "care", so, it won't get done. I have suggested to him numerous times to collect him....doesn't cost that much to store it yearly, etc......but, he just wanted to be done with things---he is upset, so, I get it. I seriously doubt that many bitches will meet my criteria for breeding anyway, so it is really moot point....actually, its the owners of the bitches that do not generally meet my criteria. WIll I chop off his nuts? No, no more than I would chop off the nuts of my grandsons. It isn't necessary, unless a dog has cancer, or pyo, to perform an elective surgery on them.
As to me keeping a dog....I never promise ANYONE I get a dog from that I will keep it. EVER. Why? Because there is no guarantee that after the initial settling in period(30 to 60 days), that I and the dog will get along.
Every shepherd I have seen/met in the last 30 yrs, including during my military work(10 yrs in Army, disabled, honorable medical discharge), shepherds have a high pitched whiney bark, when they are just talking....I call it the 90lb chihuahua bark.
If I do sell this dog, then the home will be screened carefully and they will go through training sessions to learn how to handle the dog. He will go into a home with children, as he likes kids, and he will be well cared for.
And, trust me, my home is much more attractive to this dog and his former owner than him living in a kennel with 20 other dogs, and not having the things that he has been used to---time and attention and love.
Now, speaking of all those things, I need to go play with my dogs.....why don't the rest of you do that, rather than wasting your time being jealous?

You can do two hours of karate and you have a medical retirement? I wish I were that physically capable with my disability, and got payment on top of it for being disabled. Meager money is better than the nothing I get as a person who is disabled enough that employers now pass over in this tough job market these days and I do not receive any disability money or benefits. We stand on our own feet and do not use animals to support ourselves in this way though a little extra income would be nice. We are not frivolous and live within our means. I would not do this to a dog.
Chances are bitches will not meet your criteria, when part of the issue is the male does not meet criteria? Please explain how the male is not proven yet you will judge the females to see if they are good enough?
High pitched whining is because a dog you built no trust with is being stressed in the situation you put it in. You just got the dog threw a shock collar on it, and separated it from your side, put it on display in a room of strangers for two hours... I would have bit you.
Training sessions with you to handle the dog.... for another fee collection I am sure?
Someone does not agree with you why is it they always claim jelousy? lol I just do not get that excuse to ones self to shrug off that maybe they need to look deeper in themselves than use excuses for what someone has said to them.
