Never mind, Brittany. You look at things in a very different way.

Dogs are only as much danger as their owners allow. The whole world shouldn't be forced to own only dogs who would pass a humane society temperament test just because there are a ton of stupid people out there.

Melba, I think that was before he bought his Bomber daughter, so not sure he's still interested but worth a try. They are a pain in certain situations, aren't they? A home that has the resources and setting to let them be themselves and take advantage of their good qualities is a rare find, indeed.

Jenni, you are absolutely correct!! I love her, and she is a tremendous working dog, which I also love BUT our situation (kids, ducks etc...) with neighbors that have kids and a super annoying little toy something or other that thinks its his business to come over and torment our dogs, she is not a good fit. She is a homebred girl, and exactly what I was shooting for with the breeding. Tough as nails, drives over the top, will hunt until she drops..... but I also got the "kids are prey and don't touch me" in her also. I've done an AD with her, she can be out in public but she will never seek out attention from others and if you don't take heed of her body language then she'll nail you, which is not a problem except that Joe public is utterly clueless and thinks every dog they see is free to be pet and loved on. She is not a pet, period. She'll turn your house inside out looking for a ball. If your decoy isn't quick enough, she'll nail him or her too.

If anyone on here knows of a department that would take a donated dog, let me know please :)

Sounds like a dog I'd want...

No sarcasm there, fyi.

Not caring is not the same as wanting a child eating dingo.  I don't have kids so I don't particularly care if my dogs are good with kids or not as long as they tolerate any people I say so and are under my control.  FWIW all my dogs get exposure to kids through friends and are just fine, but to me that's not the same as a dog that was very deliberately raised and socialized around kids, which mine were not.

I think Mr. Garrison is simply stating his priority which is a GREEN dog.  A lot of people sell green dogs that are NOT green, they've been doing obedience, playing bitework with rags, socializing the dog....(I say this because I just sold a dog on Saturday that I did all that stuff with because his owner *wanted* a dog that had been started and socialized).  Sometimes someone else's idea of socialization is absolutely not what I'm looking for even though I *do* socialize my dogs up the wazoo.  I'd rather do it later than have it done wrong.

Paul didn't say that he was looking for a dog that hasn't been socialized; he said it didn't matter if the dog wasn't social...two completely different things.  He also didn't say he wanted a dog that was not good with kids or other animals but that it wasn't important if the dog wasn't.

Sounds like most GSD I encountered back in the 70s!

With respect, no wonder the breed has been diminished to the 'golden retriever with pointy ears' status ....imagine wanting to kill a creature merely because YOU don't want it.

I don't know if my dogs are good with kids...I don't give them that opportunity to fail.

Yeah, Paul could be a bail bondsman, who knows?

Some working line dogs are actually meant to work.

I know some cattle ranchers that are in remote places for weeks at a time with cow dogs that fit this description.

The dogs basically never interact with strangers and have probably never been inside a house.  They would probably bite you if you tried to snuggle them.

They would make terrible pets but are excellent for their purpose or they wash out quick.

They LOVE to move cows.

Dantes really good post. Btittany you've done it again, open mouth and insert foot. I like others, think it is awfully crude about wanting to put a dog down just cause it's not your type. None of your dogs are my type either so  think we should put them down? A lot of people think my breeding program is crazy. Maybe we should put all my dogs down.................Doesn't make sense does it? You should think before you talk.
Paul knows what he wants and I think he is the man to handle and train a dog like that. You ever seen any vidoes of those hanging tree cowdogs?. Anybody that can work dogs like that can work anything IMO.

I don't see what's the problem. I know of several people who would be interested in this type of dog. He needs a PPD. Different dogs for different people.

What I don't know, is why would anyone go out of their way to crucify someone for wanting a specific type of dog. If this is what suits his needs, it shouldn't be anyone else's business.
