This WL male popped up in the ads on the database (as a stud, not for sale, unfortunately!)  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=753089-mailo-aus-der-eichendorffsiedlung

Two things I knew before I clicked on his pedigree: one, there was going to be lots of Bernd v. Lierberg in his ancestry, and 2) Falk v.d. Woelfen was somewhere very close up!

I was right on both counts! Bernd figures in most WL pedigrees, but this guy's ped is LOADED with him!

Anyone know anything about him?  Teeth Smile

Sunsilver, what gave Bernd away for you, and what, in your opinion, do you see with heavy influence w/in 8 generations?

Purely conversational, as my 2 favorites of all time have him pretty heavy in 7th generation and 8th.

He's gorgeous!

The tipoff for me is always the heavily pigmented black and tan colouring, blanketback verging on bicolour. Most WL GSDs these days are sable, and since sable is dominant over black and tan, a  black and tan dog will almost always have lots of Bernd in its ancestry. He was used an awful lot as a stud, and his genes seem to be quite prepotent. There are certain structural cues, too, but those are a bit harder to pinpoint. I guess in this case, it's the length of back (this guy's back is a little too long)

Oh, heck, look at the photos...need I say more? They easily could be littermates!  And when there's this much backmassing, yes, the genes DO come through even if it's 7 or 8 generations back!

The dog is linebred on Bernd 10,10,10,10,10,9,9,8,8,9,10,10,9,10,9,10,10,8 - 10,9,10,10,9,10,8,8,8,10,9,10,10,10,10,10,8,8,8
Or, for short, carries 7.03125% of Bernd's genetic material, and barely retained the same amount any of his four grandparents carried on Bernd.

Now, I could show you several dogs with a LOT more Bernd in them, that look NOTHING like him.
