Ever wonder why.... by Hutchins on 11 April 2013 - 23:49 (userip: 184.38.151.225) ![]() ![]() |

I have always been amazed at some of the ads that people post in hopes of selling a dog or puppy. Why would a person NOT want to put a pedigree link to the animal being advertised. Why do people use the word, "rare" when there is really nothing "rare" in the GSD breed as it was intended to be. The only "rare" there is, is something man created in his own mind that is really not in the breed standard. Ok, I am sorry I guess I got carried away with my own little ranting secession. ![]() ![]() Sorry this should have been put in the GSD general section. ![]() |

Hutchins, I agree ! Also, I've always wondered at the use of the
word 'extra' in a lot of ads. Extra what exactly ?

I always wonder when people put "I dont have to sell this dog"....well duh..obviously you dont have to but you want to..so why state the obvious?

I agree and think all ads should have pedigree, price, video and a good description of the dog including temperament.

A LOT of the ads in here are from foreign countries whose first language is NOT English. Different norms and attitudes as well as expressions apply there that may not apply here or whatever you are from. The "extra" word you see in some of these ads translates as "more then normal" in most cases. In another case, a friend from Europe advertised his dog as being "violent" because he thought it translated as aggressive. Some people will simply google translate something they wrote in their native tongue and post it...if you not used to it, it can be confusing. I do agree that anyone who posts in here should include a complete description of the dog AND the asking price.

With the internet, its very easy to find a dog. If an owner has asked a broker to sell a dog, and the broker agrees, that broker will spend many hours making phone calls and posting ads. A prospective buyer will spend hours on the phone with the broker and then do a search of the dog's name, find the owner and make a deal with the owner, cutting out the broker. That is why the dog's name is sometimes changed and or the pedigree is not posted.
As far as price, I wish more people would include it into their ads, but once again. Many deals are cash deals. Sending western union, other non-tracable form of payment. This is a way for sellers from other countries to avoid paying 16+ percent tax on the sale.

A lot of people think that the Price is to be kept between the Seller and Buyer...Different people think differently...

I agree with Bob. There are people I wouldn't sell a dog to for a million dollars, and people I'd really take a hit in order to get the dog into their home as opposed to somewhere else...so it depends. I'd hate to scare someone good away from even asking because I put too high of a price on there for them...

This is just me and what I do...But I will usually post the price on my puppies that are for sale...But after the puppies are 6 months or older then I will usually want to talk to the potential Buyers and then I think it's a Private deal and sale...
If it scares away some Buyers then so be it and probably they didn't really know what they're looking for or at anyways...
Like I said...It's just the way I do business and others have their own ways...I usually try to think of Buyers and How and What I'd like if I were in their shoes and looking for a Puppy/Dog...

I take Hired Dogs point about languages; but I still wonder
what "more than normal" means in the context 'extra' often
gets used. If its about working stocks' drives and aggression,
ok - especially in an adult for sale. But used in reference to
a new litter of S/L pups ? Huh ?
