Hi Everyone,
It's time for Cisco to get his OFFA Hip and Elbow ratings.....He is 25 months old......was x-rayed under sedation......I decided to post his x-rays for opinions and educational purposes.

(Just for position comparison) Here's is the film we took last year when we were trying to locate to cause of Cisco's intermittent lameness.(For those of you who did not follow my thread in December) The lameness was caused by a growth (which we had removed) on a damaged disk between the L& and Sacrum.....this in turn caused Cauda Equina like symptoms.

Here is the film we took on Tuesday for OFFA evaluation.
Other than the left knee being pulled down farther than the right I think the positioning looks pretty good.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,
Cheri

Best guess OFA fair for breed and age. Nice x-ray. Was he sedated?

Hi Bliten....yes he was sedated....Curious...why do you say fair?

by Gustav on 04 April 2013 - 14:04

Could go good or could go fair....most important thing is they are fine hips.

I am thinking fair to good.  Please let us know.  Good luck  Nan

fair

by Blitzen on 04 April 2013 - 16:04

IMO this is a close call - fair to good.. My best guess is fair because the ball of the right hip is not seated quite as deeply in the socket when compared to the left side. However a very slight adjustment in the positioning could correct that. Good to know he was sedated, I think that always gives a more honest look at the dog's true hip conformation. Either way, I think Cisco has normal hips.

I'm not one to get hung up on ratings. In my experience many times the ratings are the results of the positioning and film quality and the moods of the evaluators. I am always happy with a dog's receiving a number regardless of the rating. If he does get a fair and if that is a concern for you, you can always have another xray taken and resubmit it for another evaluation. I know of others who do that routinely with fairs  and most of the time the dog gets an OFA upgrade.

Thanks everyone...I will post the results when I get them.

Blitzen.....I also think the right is not as seated as the left.

BTW.....there is no way in hell we could have put him on his back under restraint without sedation......he does not like to be restrained and fights it strenuosly......all ways has.

Another Question for you guys.....what is a FAST NORMAL rating?

by Blitzen on 05 April 2013 - 00:04

A fast normal would be an OFA borderline.

Many males (dogs that is) don't like to be put on their backs, it's a sign of submission in the dog world  Angry.
