Since our trial was canceled, I'm on the hunt for another trial to do my boy's BH soon. I was familiar with the previous judge and knew what he looked for and really liked how he tried to make handlers (especially the newbies) feel comfortable. My dog is ready and just gets better with every training session. My problem is me. I know everyone gets nervous but I tend to get pretty out of sorts. I've made a lot of progress and was really confident about trialing under the previous judge. I want to stay as calm as possible so my dog will do the best job he can do. He and I both have worked really hard.

Mike was who we were supposed to trial under but that trial has been postponed and no new date as of yet. :(

Mike Hamilton is a great one, firm, but fair for sure. You learn something from him when you trial as if it's a seminar.

Most judges tend to be quite patient and more than happy to help a
first timer try to relax and get through it. I can't think of one who isn't.
Just go out and have fun! Make sure you know the pattern, ask if you
have sudden memory loss. It's supposed to be your hobby, have fun
with it

I was with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago and she had a good suggestion to help you remember the pattern. She said to walk the course and use landmarks for your distances. I thought that was a great idea. Maybe that will help you and keep you calm. This same trainer literally gets so nervous, she crys before a test. I just laugh. I cant speak for anyone else, but I get nervous and I think most of us do. I really don't give the judge much thought. Either my dog passes or they don't. You just cannot control the weird things that you dog might do while testing. So if you feel READY, then go for it.

All the judges I've trialed under and observed have been OK. I didn't think any of them were trying to fail or wanted someone to fail a BH, even ones who have sharper pencils at higher levels. It's pass/fail and we *want* people to continue with this sport. Good luck!

Borgan Sergo He was very nice. Gave nice fine pointed critiques and was uplifting in his responses. For my first time i thought he was very fair.

To each their own I suppose...Personally I wouldn't trial a hamster under Hamilton...I don't chase judges so every BH has always been under a different judge. Hartmut Beckmann was a great judge IMO...Randal Hoadley was good...While I realize the BH is supposed to be a pass or fail and a stepping stone to other titles it also shouldn't just be a gimmee either...I've seen plenty of trials that dogs regardless of level shouldn't have passed and plenty that I've seen people get beat up at point wise that IMO were really harsh and deserved more than they got....so flip a coin because it can go either way on any given day...
