Anyone looking to breed GSDs need to be aware of a flim flame in New England...one person owns the male and another man houses the male. When you contact man 1 and ask to use the male for breeding, he acknowledges and lets you come to his home and breeds the male, then he takes the stud fee money but gives no contract. Then you wait and your female comes up pregnant and you want the papers. The actual owner of the male tells you that he never got the money from the breeding......he refuses to authorize the puppy registration unless you pay him.
On the other side, you paid stud fee (and did not get a receipt) and your bitch does not get pregnant....the owner owes you nothing and the guy housing the male gave you no receipt so you are out your $800. Warning: create a paper trail. Get receipts so you can take legal action against these flim flam ripeoffs.
It happened to my cousin in New England and it can happen to you. Before you give anyone any money get a receipt or contract clearly stating what you pay for.

Always good advice. If there's a way, someone will figure out how to scam unsuspecting people. You can't be too trusting of people you don't know. So sorry to hear of this. The police and media in our area are always letting people know of any new scams. I don't know if your cousin will have any legal recourse or not. It may just end up being a "Hard Lesson" learned.

Wouldn't you want the contract in hand "before" the deed was done.
Now THIS is true flim-flammin, wham-bammin "back yard breeders".

Everyone has made this mistake one time or another, a stud contract is needed even thru friends as I had this happen from a guy that was suppose to a good friend although I was lucky and only had one pup in the litter and there was no stud fee paid prior to pups being born.  It is sad there are those out there that prey on others this way.

Breed responsibly. Breed to dogs that are good dogs and not crap. Breed to dogs that are owned by reputable breeders not two random guys. Always get a signed contract and always get a receipt or proof that the breeding took place. See if the owner has the papers of the dog, because if he doesn't he doesn't own the dog! There were a lot of ridiculous errors there. Stupidity.

What amazes me is just how quick some people are to bring their female to a stud owner without know what they are getting in to prior. Do people not plan things out and ask questions anymore?

Seriously you all want to crucify someone for going to a VA dog???? not her fault to expect someone at that level to be legitimate??? Wouldn't you all like names? She is dealing thru AKC with her complaint...Not a CRAP dog but the owners /agent should have been more legitimate. Before you judge you should look amongst yourselves. They walk among you.
