i know it makes no sense @ all, as snow is cold water, but when one of my dogs eats it he gets diarrhea

Don't let him eat so much. It's not good for a dog to eat a lot of snow, it gives them diarrhea.

Digesting something extremely cold into a dog's guts can sometimes cause colitis, hence diarrhea.
