I have a friend in Canada who wants to try her dog (not a GSD) in SAR. She lives in Saskatoo, SK. Can anyone here help her? Thanks!!!

I live in Saskatoon. Email me at gnilrone@sasktel.net
I also wanted to do this and could not believe the barriers put up locally. You will have to contact the SAR organization.

I'm going to give your eamil address to the gal who wants to try SAR. She has hit multiple barriers there too. Thanks for responding.

Not a problem. Maybe if enough of us get together we can accomplish something.

Just a thought - have you tried contacting the Canadian Search Dog Association? Perhaps someone there can refer you to a trainer in Saskatchewan.

The Canadian Search Dog Association occasionally hosts interesting workshops.
Here's a recent one: http://www.napwda.com/2012-napwda-alberta-cadaver-training-workshop

I already did that. Not helpful in finding a trainer locally.

If you want to try on your own, Then the leerburg website has training videos for tracking using the RCMP methods. You and the dog would still have to pass the SAR tests. SAR tracking and competition tracking are two very different methods. Both you and the dog have to be in excellent physical shape. You cannot train the dog and pass it off to another handler to work. There is not the interest locally in SAR dogs. We approached city hall and the local police and were very disappointed in their lack of interest and support. AS I said before, I am here in Saskatoon if you wish to contact me.
