Maybe we could have a GSD Best in Show this year, and a German bred one at that
by noddi on 12 March 2013 - 06:03
Wasnt to be unfortunately, but this gsd has done the breed proud, regardless of what a fraction of gsd exhibitors think. All i can say to these folk is....LOOK TO YOUR OWN TYPE/BREEDING......HEALTH is paramount n more IMPORTANT than type.Your campaign to split the breed in this country is very FLAWED if u think conformation is MORE IMPORTANT than health n temperament.Carole Spelman,Rheinmeister gsds.....german/continental type n proud of it.

Pick and Group 3 is still better than being 'chucked out with the rest'!
opa _ I just hope you didn't jinx the result by posting that he was gonna
go BOB / BIS.

Are there any links to showing Elmo at Crufts? Was the GSD entry up to par this year? My other breed's entry was noticably down from previous years. We didn't know if it was the judge or a trend.

Mrs Swift I said MAYBE,but Elmo placings was very good well done to the owners, and Steve.

The entry was 62 males/70 females. There was a change of judge just b4 the postal close of entry was due.....from Mr.W.Petrie to Mr.K.Hoyland,so those exhibitors who dont have the international type, contacted the kennel club 4 a refund n i assume these names did not appear in the catalogue.I would say yes it was on par with yrs.gone by.As usual there were absentees.Carole Spelman.

Blitzen, taking a longer view, entries have been down a lot for
some years now on what they used to be. I can recall attending
year after year in London when we always had a judge for each
sex; GSD entries haven't been large enough for that, for ages.
62+70/ 132 sounds roughly around totals for the last couple of
years, without taking time to look it up. GSDs suffer from a general
downturn in entries, even for major shows, as do most other breeds
- usual stuff about increasing entry costs, fuel prices etc etc, before
you even get into our two 'preferences' of judges. As Carole points
out, once Billy Petrie pulled out sick, a lot of 'alsatian' people who did
not want to exhibit under Kevin Hoyland will have withdrawn (though
whether that was early enough to have escaped being printed in the
catalogue I don't know, & I haven't seen one yet for this year).
Channel Four TV ran programmes (Pastoral Group & Best In Show
were on Sunday 10th) which will I expect be available online; but we
don't get much breed judgeing in those. May well be some other
videos available from ringside (? not sure if officially allowed, nudge
nudge !) but sorry I don't know of any links YET...
