With the recent rise of TV shows - Alpha Dogs, Glory Hounds, and I just saw a "News at 11" ad for military dogs,  I'm wondering if it's a good or bad thing for the GSD's or breeds like the Dutch Shepherds and Malinois.  I like the fact that these truly amazing canines are being showcased for their abilities in the most difficult situations known to man.  I do worry about; however, the uneducated rush for average folk to have the want to buy one of these magnificent animals for the ego factor without really knowing the time, energy, effort, expense, education and training needed to create the finished product.  We already have an over abundance of shelter dogs that need homes for one reason or another.  I'm afraid that these TV shows, although terrific, will create an onslaught of people to go out and buy a pup only to learn that they don't have a clue as to what they're doing which will then lead to increased shelter dogs.  So, I see a positive with the TV shows as I mention but I'm afraid  the negative (which will occur in a few years from now) will be much worse.

I feel your concern, however, everyone needs to tighten their belts so to speak and not fall for the hype.
The hype is what kills a breed.  BOL  Nan
