My question is this...I am training for the AD and my dog is the worst to ride a bike with...He just has horrible manners and wants to zig zag in front. I don't really care if this is corrected or not because if it wasn't for wanting to get the AD I would never ride a bike with him...Am I allowed to have him follow while I sit in the back of a van holding a long lead?

The back of a van? LOL NO. Are you doing your AD at PSC? The AD is always held in the grass field across from the Sch field.
Put a pinch on him and practice with the bike the same way as if you are heeling. It should be no different except you are on
wheels. The little girl I ran the last AD with had NEVER run next to a bike before that day. Easy peasy. I'm doing 2 (hopefully at
the same time! Boys have no problem running on either side of the bike together) YOU need more conditioning then your dog
does... the last 4 laps you will think you are going to die... muscle failure.

Buy this:
You can't use it during the AD but it will help with the training and showing the dog where it should be. If the dog's going to be bad I would also put a pinch on him but make sure it's not too tight (put an extra link in it) and hook both rings so you don't choke him.
Good luck

Jay,
Make sure you're conditioning yourself to hills and riding in the grass ugh.. I've been trying to get them to let me do the AD with my quad... LOL

Only one dog per handler and the handler has to be on a bike. I did two dogs (got a friend to come hold the leash for my other dog) so I had to train them both. I started with a pinch and I also turned the bike into them if they tried to cut the bike off in front. The bike "bites" was their first lesson! By the time of the AD they were both fine. My younger dog actually *pulled* my friend for the first ten miles, she didn't have to pedal!

I had a friend who wanted to try it and was able to bring her own bike. I paid her in wine and chocolate :) The dog she handled also did his BH 20 minutes after finishing the AD.
