I have recently come across this, http://www.dscsandiego.net/Events.html and have decided to enter, just to see what rating my 11 month old girl would get. The thing is, I have never done anything like this nor would I know what to do. I would like some advise form those with plenty of experience. And how do I find a handler?

Is the breeder of your dog going or know someone that is? Try contacting Leon and see if there is someone that you can prepare with. You may be able to get someone to handle at the show but it would be better to get a commitment before hand. Showing should be fun for the dog and for you. The dog needs to be used to crowds and other dogs. It needs to be used to being handled, you can do some of this yourself, it helps to have another person. The dog will be pulling at the end of the lead but not frantically and you will have to be able to get it's attention in a crowd. Most people get their dog used to a noise maker that can be heard in a crowd such as a whistle or duck call by associating it with treats. You should be the dogs reward for going around properly and for being patient while the handler stacks the dog while the judge is looking at it. Get her used to having her teeth checked. There should be no pressure just have fun and make it a positive experience. I am on the other end of the country but would love to be in San Diego. I or others can give you more pointers I hope you make the deadline, repost and give an update.
