He looks lean to me, at least from that angle. Of course, since he's a pup, he could have a growth spurt and by next week be looking actually gaunt. 
If you can easily feel his ribs with very slight pressure, he's good. If you can play his ribs like a xylophone, he's too thin. If you have to push your fingers in like you're pressing an elevator button, he's too fat.

Thanks, hexe; I think he's pretty lean as well which is how I like to keep my dogs. He has a thin coat of winter fat but it's cold here; he's a big boy!

Thanks...it was sort of a rhetorical question. He was 7 months a week ago and weighed in at 73 lbs. Saturday. He's a big damn pup!

Honestly, in this particular picture Jag looks a little thick in the middle

Ruger1, I think you might be mistaking the shadow underneath him as being part of his abdomen. I had to adjust the viewing angle on the laptop to be able to see that it was just shadow. You can see the transition from the convex area of the ribcage to the concave area of the loin easily, which tells me he's not tubby.

Looks good to me. Hard to tell from this pic but just based on this pic I say neither skinny nor fat. Normal puppy!

Thanks, everyone! He's at a good weight; just sort of concerning because he's unusually large for his age. Pretty sure he'll level out...
