OK!!!! Here we go. Today I got Sargo's hips and elbows done by a vet that came highly recommended by Jennifer Thompson. THANKYOU! The vet was great. The goal was to knock it out with no sedation....LOL....not even close. After my dog tried to kill the poor doctor we went ahead with the light sedation...that was crazy...so after it was all said and done I asked her to please not tell me what she thought so that I could take a look for myself and see if my evaluation of the xrays would be about what she would say....keep in mind I my only training is what I have learned on here. I was looking for flattening and looking for a deep seat. Well the vet thought it would be funny to show me an example of some of the worst hips that you could ever imagine....I dropped to my knees....LMAO....litteraly dropped to my knees. she shaked her head and laughed. The vet tech came in and said "stop messin with that man....Those are not his xrays...LOL...anyways. elbows looked perfect and in her opinion hips looked normal and fair at worst. I was so excited I forgot to ask for a copy so that I could post them. They sent them off to OFA for me and now its time to wait. THey are gonna mail me a copy of the xray so that I can post it. SHould have that within a couple of days. I just dont wanna drive another hour to get it.

I will indeed kepp everyone posted. I feel like this about it. I have an incredible dog and Even if OFA comes back and says something that I wouldnt want to hear I would still feel good about him living a healthy life. At this point depending how the next year goes on the Schutzhund field and hoping that OFA is good he is gonna be a daddy. Now im in the process of being honest with myself about his drives his strengths and weakness so that I can pair with some good people and try and produce some good pups.

IMO sedation should be required by OFA for hip xrays. Good luck.

I had it done at ....AT THE LAKE vet hospital..Dr. Barbara. She is good. She suggested the light sedation off the bat. I on the other hand have read that it is possible for the sedation to make the dog to relaxed. She told me that if its bad its bad..lol. I was impressed. And she didn't mind educating me.

Sedation or not. If they are bad they are bad and if they are good they are good.

Not possible for sedation to relax a dog too much IF the goal is to get the true picture of hip conformation. If the goal is only to receive a clearance, then sedation will eliminate a few dogs by demonstrating subluxation that won't be seen if the dog is resisting the manipulation.
