y the olive, coconut, and egg(with sell)?

by SitasMom on 04 February 2013 - 21:02

why not just a good kibble with a small handful of ground beef......its just easier..

So, so.  I would not add the Vit C at all, dogs make their own.  And adding can offset their delicate balance.  Nan

I agree with Nans gsd about vitamin C.
If I was you, I would be taking out extra virgin olive oil and potentially coconut oil too. These oils are plant based and in my opinion dogs can not utilize them as well as they can animal based oils, such as salmon oil. However some people have different opinion about this.
Orijen LBP is a good start, just make sure you transition your dog easy from old food (what he was feed by the breeder) to the new type of food.

Good luck.

@supermariok
Coconut has many properties that help with immunity, skin, hair and nails, olive oil helps with coat, eyes and is a very healthy oil for humans and dogs.
Egg just to give a different taste and it also helps with coat.

@Sitasmom
I think Orijen is a great quality kibble but it's still a kibble. So i want give raw at least 2xs a week. I believe it will help and i wanted to do a complete raw,
not just ground beef and chicken necks/legs. And to go completely raw is just not something i'm looking to do.

@Nan
Hmmmm....I have to do more research but from what i have been reading, i see it helps with HD prevention. I don't plan on that for a while, so more research
will for sure be given in this but thank you

Thank you all for your opinions

Here is an article about the benifits of coconut oil and what got me thinking of adding it

I have been feeding coconut oil for awhile and some dogs do well, some dont. I have to disagree though with the Vit C. Although dogs do make their own, it doesnt take much to use it up if the dog is stressed. It's esp good for dogs with HD because it helps to build synovial fluid which is the fluid between the joints to keep eveything lubed. Because I get the chewable, so do the dogs.

I was going to comment about the oil. That's alot to give a puppy. I would be guessing the runs would be in order. I will agree however that 80-20 beef is easiest and Ive seen the best benefit from that alone.

Ive been giving the dogs salmon and other than salmon farts What Smile (and these are serious mastiff ones), havent really noticied much improvement.

For the price of the Orijen, why not just feed raw all together?

any non grain kibble is good enough.......origin has too high a price.

too much vitamin... gets eliminated in urine, too little can cause trouble.
