That is just one way to do the DM swab test. Animal Genetics, who I use, sends a small bristle brush you simply brush the insides of dogs gums a few seconds and mail in.

Yep mine was a bristle brush. I just pinch the dog's cheek around the brush and turn it for 10 seconds.
